Does anyone know what the current limits are for the electromagnets used for WPC magna-save; i.e. is the design of the magnet already maxed out at 50V, so that trying to double the magnetic force using higher current (via voltage) would not be possible without risking heat damage to the coil? I'd use a one-second activation time. Would doing so make any difference saving SDTM on WCS94?

Background: If part of the WCS94 game play is lighting magna-save, then it ought to be worth something. I've had the pin for many years and Magna-save is nothing but disappointment ... why bother with it, it never accomplishes anything? I'm thinking a person could use the magna-save solenoid driver to engage a separate higher voltage / current driver for the electromagnet. I'd add a thermal fuse just in case the controller stuck in the on position. Yeah, I've seen the pin with a black spot where the magna-save was.

Thanks.

Maybe you need to replace your magnet. Mine definitely saves the ball. If it doesn't catch it directly it'll at least throw it onto the flipper.

Has anyone replaced their magnet and seen improved performance of this feature?

Because I've read on pinside that others think the WCS94 magna-save does not save SDTM shots that have somewhat fast velocity. Is this typical or not? I've always just assumed normal operation for the magna-save was very limited range.

Just to make sure we are talking the same thing here, your WCS94 diverts SDTM balls that have somewhat fast velocity?

Here are my results:
1. Slow moving balls can be caught/deflected when dropped from about mid field where the painted soccer ball is with the skill lights.
2. NOT caught: all balls dropped SDTM from about the free-kick target area. This gives the ball a little speed and SDTM is just outside of the painted outer purple circle of the magna-save area. In my opinion this is the majority of the types of shots somebody is going to want to save. (Data comes from two WCS94 pins)

I think the magna-save is a great feature, but I never get the hang of using it because I'm always thinking it won't work on balls with much velocity. Almost everytime I use it, it is a dud so I never use it.

Yes it does.

Another thought - have you ever replaced your connectors including the header pins? They could be corroded causing the magnet to not get maximum current.
