I see a couple of familiar faces in that crowd.

#302 3 years ago

I won a woodrail, need to head up from Dallas to fetch it. Anyone got room heading back to DFW?

#303 3 years ago
Quoted from jrpinball:

Wow. I recently saw an ad for a pretty decent "Lightning Ball" project for $475. Not a game I really like, so I let it pass.

I only wanted it because I have this thing about needing to have owned a game from every major era, and I've never had a woodrail. I think it would look amazing next to Crescendo. Gameplay be damned, Crescendo isn't much of a winner with most people in that regard either.

"Lightning Ball" has a very drab playfield. The woman on the backglass reminds me of a rather unattractive woman I used to work with. I like the cabinet though.
Would love to do a woodrail conversion of "Sweet Hearts" into that cabinet because the graphics are essentially the same.

A Stern Disco sold for $575.00.

That's down on the low end.

Which one?

Drab? It's colorful, wierd, and super tacky! Like Crescendo! But not...drab. I'd settle for 'unexciting', but I quite like the simplicity of it. The backglass art is pretty much exactly what I picture in my head when I think of old super cheesy sci-fi. Kind of like how the Star Trek Voyager guys had a fake Flash Gordon knockoff that was just terrible. I'm kind of a schmuck for stuff in that vein.

It's like Yin and Yang...they'd just go together...look at it...

I’ll need to drive up if no offers to cart it back

Willing to pay of course! No rush either

#309 3 years ago

Unbelievably scummy move by the auction house. Guys will try to outbid each other, when they are actually chasing after different pinball machines.
There should be a thread for tales of bad auction experiences, if there is not one already.

Quoted from NicoVolta:

They’re doing “buyer’s choice”. Ffffffffffffffff.
Five at a time. Highest bidder gets first choice and can optionally buy 1-4 more at same price.
Bidding then continues for the rest. Not a fan... but oh well.

I don't know if the one I was offered is still for sale, but I could find out for you if you'd like. I don't do Facebook, but it was a Facebook ad which someone (who isn't into woodrails) sent to me. I don't know for sure where it was located, but for some reason, I think it was Pennsylvania.

I hate it when potentially exciting and memorable events such as this become a fiasco.

?? 2014 book value for this was 450. Can’t imagine it being much higher for such a stellar title. Worth that in parts I guess. Looks like my 300 max bids on other titles would have been a waste of time.

#313 3 years ago

It is not a fiasco.

At the point I'd need to ship one, I might've as well paid 900 bucks, plus...I'm kind of over the whole shipping games thing. It's bad enough fretting over a NIB when you know you can always refuse it and Stern will just send out a new one or whatever, but when it's a really old, irreplaceable game...ugh. I'd really rather handle it myself or have someone experienced doing it.

Snagged Ice Show for $450. Great backglass and playfield.

#316 3 years ago

High Hand went for $700

#317 3 years ago

Wanted Solids & Stripes but $1900?!? WHOO.

No.

#318 3 years ago

I snagged Flipper Clown $950

Well, I'm glad it's not, but I was just commenting on someone's comment about the lot of five arrangement.

#320 3 years ago

OK and Campus Queen for $500... couldn’t resist.

#321 3 years ago

Looks like an awesome time. Looking forward to seeing some of these games back in circulation.

#322 3 years ago

If anyone got Sky-line and is interested in selling please let me know. Thx!

Buyer’s choice

#324 3 years ago

Bone Busters Inc. $2700, The Amazing Spider-Man $2500 Ballyhoo $250 Top Hat $1950
I didn't bid on anything.
Buyer's choice was fine. Anytime a bid goes higher than what you want to pay for the game you want from the lot you stop.

#325 3 years ago

Did those 3 have $ 1,000 in the coin boxes ??

Holy crap! That is absolutely astronomical prices on a Bone Busters and a GTB Spiderman.

I really debated jumping in my car yesterday around 3 PM and saying screw it. I'm glad I didn't. I would've gotten a chance to meet some cool Pinsiders, but wouldn't have touched those games for those prices. Pinflation continues.

Let me know how much the Devils Dare goes for.

First time buyers that want there game. Good luck on those bids.

#330 3 years ago

Holy moly. Tell me that the Bally Harvest and Dixieland went for stupid money too.

#331 3 years ago

I had an eye on that one. I've never seen one anywhere. Not even pictures. Who else owns one? I don't think I'd have gone that high on it. What about "Ten Spot"?

#332 3 years ago

Dixieland just under $600 with perfect backglass. Almost bought it...

#333 3 years ago

Crazy auction. Great to see and chat with a bunch of you. The game I drove down for went for better than 2x my absolute high end. I ended up with a cc baseball and gottleib masquerade. Neither was in the 8 game short list I had after my first choice. Headed back home- All in all a good experience insofar as meeting pinsiders. Good people. I’ll post more after a good nights sleep.

#334 3 years ago

So, is the auction over then

Times 2 on Harvest...that one caught my eye

Done!!!

#337 3 years ago

Anyone know what the Flicker went for?

#338 3 years ago

I hope somebody was tracking the pricing. I was shaking my head so much it was hard to write....

#339 3 years ago
Quoted from jrpinball:

No one on Pinball Owners lists a Williams "Top Hat". O-din, ever seen one before?

#340 3 years ago

What did that pre-war Paradise bring? I've always loved that backglass.

#341 3 years ago

Wow, looks like few deals were had. Good return for the family though. With no buyers premium, what is a typical AH cut? 25% ? 30% ?

Back to sniffing out CL project deals

Yeah, that's a great backglass. Anybody get the "Big Chief"?

#343 3 years ago

Bob Herbison snagged the Wisconsin and the Bowling Queen for me.

Dick C. (YeOldPinPlayer) has offered to haul 'em back to Dallas for me, but I can't reach Bob right now, and Dick is heading out soon after dinner.

If anyone see Bob H., I would be most appreciative if y'all could tell him to find Dick and hand off the two pins!

Thanks - Matt

#345 3 years ago

Darnit, Dick C. Had to head out and never found Bob.

Bob’s leaving tomorrow morning I believe.

And Dallas-bound folks have space for 2 pins, leaving tomorrow?

Matt

Anyone know what the Old Chicago went for?

#347 3 years ago
Quoted from YeOldPinPlayer:

Devil's Dare brought $1800

That is craziness. I've had two of them already, one of which was pretty nice that I picked up for 700 bucks. But 1800? That thing better be real nice and play 100%. And that person still will never get their money back out of it. Must be a game they really wanted, or somebody that didn't know what it was worth.

I will say I'm glad the widow or family made out decent, and didn't get ripped off for the games.

Mostly complete price list. I'd say this is 95% accurate (I might have transposed or misheard a few). I missed a big chunk of the 1960s as I couldn't see anything from the back of the crowd anyway. I went home empty handed, as did most of my friends. Remember that there was no buyer's premium and no credit card surcharge.
Credit to the auctioneer. Whether you liked it or not, he did his job well:
* Maximized seller's earnings.
* Kept the auction moving (160 games in under 4 hours)
Some of the games (probably less than 20%) did go to remote bidders.

Looks like a fair share of what prices are listed are at least somewhat decent. What some of the games went for is a little ridiculous.

#350 3 years ago

$ 1,100 Sky Kings ?? Oh well.

Campus Queen, Harvest, Dixieland and Mini Zag all went for close to book.

Thanks for posting.
