Quoted from crunchysue:

So ... now that I've got my PIN2DMD-XL installed, Frank has an intermittent issue where the DMD stops at its second screen, which is shown below. I can start and play a whole game, and the display just stays stuck here. It was happening intermittently, and now it happens every time. Any ideas what this problem could be? I've tried reseating all the connectors, and I've made triple sure that all the ribbon cables have their red stripes on pin #1.

I had a similar issue with my color extender. Reversing the cables to the main board and power supply fixed it. Unfortunately I deleted the photos, but I started a thread on it somewhere if you search, and I believe I uploaded all the photos there.

Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

wow, someone wants $3200 for a franky on here now? surely these haven't reached these prices yet have they? If so, I'm selling!

I don't want to sell, but if that's what one is going for with a divot out of the backbox and without all the mods I have, I'm curious what mine is worth. There's another one on fleaBay with the typical $4500 price tag too. I don't know about those prices, but MSF is definitely an underrated game.

Thanks for the compliment. While I usually mod a little and add lighting, I can't take full credit for this one. JeffF did most of the light additions before I bought the game from him, and did an awesome job. He added a trough strip, and another strip under the backbox above the rear PF. He also added four spots on the lower PF (above left sling and right stand ups), and another spot up top near Frank. Spots really make all the difference. I added four to my old DE Batman, and it made the PF look so much better. He also put mirror blades in, which help the illumination of the PF a lot.

I added 5 SMD cool white and blue towers under the return lane ball guides, replaced the bulbs in the spots with 4+1 no dome cool white SMD's and some other Flex two-head LED's in a few other places. I also changed a few of the rubbers, and installed orange Convolux plastics on the slings and ball guides. He put the color DMD extender in (which is awesome). The cable crapped out, so I had to play with it for a while. Switching it around helped at first, but ultimately symptoms returned and I had to replace it.

MSF tends to be dark, so I would definitely recommend the trough LED strip, and a few spots. Really brightens the game up.

The head moves on this one, but on my old MSF I had to replace the servo. Not sure if hobby or RC shops have the right part, but they may carry something "somewhat compatible." I think I ordered my servo from Bay Area or Marco, but they didn't have many. I remember because I got the filing cabinet mech for X-Files at the same time, both hard to find parts. I would try to find one if I were you, before you start playing with alternatives or manipulating the game.

Quoted from shacklersrevenge:

Just doing what everyone else seems to be doing, and putting stupid pricing.

Quoted from shacklersrevenge:

I could care less if it sells for $3200 or not, divots and all.

I agree James...it is a great game, and as I said above...highly underrated IMO. I didn't start the "what's it worth" comments, I was just chiming in after someone referenced one listed here, and throwing out what my game has and looks like compared to others I've seen advertised lately.

Quoted from NYP:

Does anybody know someone who is parting out a frankenstein? I'm desperately trying to find the speaker panel plastic in the backbox, covers the dmd and speakers etc. I'll even settle for someone who knows someone who knows someone? Can't find then new anywhere so used would be great, please LMK

I've rarely seen this game parted out, so a speaker panel might be fairly difficult to come by. I know quite a few operators, so I'll reach out to see if in the rare chance they have one.

I put the pinballbulbs.com ultimate led kit , it’s looks good.

Is your armor powder coated? And what molding do you have around the backbox? Mind shooting a pic with the lights on?

can somebody tell me how many places on the middle ramp is it secured to the playfield. I currently have 3 spots, should there be four?

The wireform portion has only three mounts/connections, if that's what you were talking about.

no, I'm talking about the plastic lower ramp. how many places is it secured to to playfield. I got the 2 ramp screws that hold it in, 1 screw on left side that sits on the hex post by the pop bumper, and 1 screw where the ball falls into the inlane on the end of the ramp. Is there any more places on ramp it attaches to the playfield or has a support bracket? seems left side of plastic ramp should be secured somewhere towards the back left corner.

OK, your first post with the question wasn't clear. I'll check mine and shoot a few pics when I get home.

So no, not just two. Starting at the bottom of the playfield, there is the hex extender on the left slingshot, another longer hex extender behind the green pop bumper, the "eyes plastic" at the top of the green pop bumper, and two support brackets on the top of the playfield under the display.

The eyes plastic supports a good portion of the ramp above the pops.

ok, that's what I'm missing then! thanks soo much. one more question...... the top plastic ramp sit on top of the 2 metal brackets in the very back or go underneath them. looks like yours is on top, but cant quite tell.

Not problem at all. And it sits on top of them.

#299 6 years ago
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

Funny, my eye plastic isnt even drilled for holes on left side!

That is odd, but I've seen others that weren't drilled on the left side. This may have been something sent out after the game was produced because they were having a problem with the ramp. It should be good enough if you fasten it on the right side under the ramp.

Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

Where do these go guys?

Don't have my game in front of me, but I think the bottom two go under the backbox on the rear of the playfield.

Quoted from vassq:

crash where do you get the eyes? Looks good.

Quoted from Crash:

It's factory.

Yeah, I would imagine because it came in the goody bag, most of them were lost or discarded by operators. I've seen several MSF's over the years that didn't have it.

#308 6 years ago
Quoted from Crash:

That's odd, maybe that suggests it was an optional playfield add-on rather than an intended factory installed part. I wonder if the manual mentions this at all?

I flipped through where I thought it would be and didn't see anything.

Ok guys, this is a Frankenstein owners club thread, not a "let's measure our dicksplay" thread. Intentional misspelling.

We've had enough of the back and forth about which display has bugs, which is better, which has more advanced software, blah blah blah. I have a Dr. Pinball DMD extender in my MSF, and it works great. Crapped out once before, and I reversed the ribbon cable. Fixed. Let's move on please, and talk about this underappreciated and underrated fantastical game, mechanical issues, questions, etc....what this thread is intended for. If you want to continue with this meaningless back and forth, please go create another thread. You're junking this one all up.

On an MSF note, a cool Pinsider came to pick up my MET last night, saw Frank and said he had never played one. Showed him the 6-ball multiball, and he seemed hooked. Lift, lift, lift, lift!!!

The tilt isn't working on our MSF. I don't see which fuse the tilt circuit is on in the manual. Any ideas? I've checked all the fuses, maybe I'm missing one.

Did you test it in the diagnostics?

Sometimes this game kicks your ass. I couldn't even get good multiball until almost 7 minutes in. But when you do get it....

Quoted from Scoot:

Progress on my Frankie is coming along. I just added led's, cleaned and waxed the playfield, added GNR coils, illuminated flipper buttons, new translight, Titan rubbers, and upgraded the dmd power supply harness. It plays like a new game. Making the right ramp used to be extremely difficult before but now plays the way it should. It went from slow and boring to fast and fun. It may just be a keeper. Mirror blades go on tomorrow. Only if I could get a set of cabinet decals would this be perfect.

Nice choice on orange flip rubbers. game looks much better after your treatment. Add some Convolux plastics. Brightens up the lower PF even more once you throw the mirror blades on...And allows you to get rid of the protective washers also.

Quoted from dannunz:

Those of you guys with cliffys on the scoops. How are they holding up? Does the bevel on the scoop cause problems with the longevity of them?

They hold up excellent on Frank. I haven’t seen lifting or shifting around like you do on other games.

And the Geneva scoop is very proximal to the flips and gets pounded. I’ve never even seen mine budge.

What will happen if I don’t put back to a 4a fuse and just keep the 5a in the spot

You could blow the transistor on the driver board, and burn out or damage anything that is on the same circuit. You can under fuse, you can’t over fuse.

Just did a full shop job and found this part on the table after I put everything back together. Anyone have any idea where it goes?

What resistance are the 2x 4" speakers near the DMD? 4 or 8 ohm?
Looking for inexpensive compatible units.

8ohm. I would use the speakers in the top left of the 2nd pic. I’ve used them on a ton of games, and they sound great. Look on partsexpress.com.

Quoted from d0n:

installed the newest pinstadium today in our new Frankenstein. The fusion neo. This new version has a diffuser over the main LED strip used for the GI's. It keeps you from seeing the individual glare on the playfield of each LED in the strip. With the diffuser, it's a glow not a pointed light reflected back at you.
It's around $500 & it is absolutely amazing. They just had a $75 off sale... that I missed. Whoops! You could wait for the next sale or just buy em. IMHO, they're worth the $500. Even better if you could buy them on sale for $425 though!

I am not a big fan of Pinstadiums, especially with a $400 or $500 price tag. They seem to only light the outer edges on this game, and do nothing for the center of the PF. Plus I don’t like seeing their light strips running up the sides of the game or reflecting off other parts.

Mine is lit awesomely with mirror blades, a cool white LED trough strip and 4 added spots on the lower PF. And I think that was about $140.

So glad to have this game back.

If you're talking about the cliffy protector for Geneva I ended up taking mine off because of this.

Yeah, mine gets held up there once in a while. On the edge of the Cliffy and up against the rubber. You can stretch the rubber out on the left and it frees it up for a while.

It’s odd though, because my last Frank had a Cliffy too, and never got held up there.

Occasionally the machine will randomly restart during gameplay. Most of the time it happens right after starting the 6 ball multiball. Why does this happen? How can I fix it?

Quoted from Irishbastard:

Could be the Power Supply, they are garbage in Sega/Data East machines. Rebuild it, or replace with an aftermarket one.

Agree with Irishbastard. Most likely the PSB.

Check the CN2 and CN3 connectors, and reflow the pins on the back of the board. And test the bridge rectifier legs. Those things always crap out on DE and Sega PSB’s.

As he said, I too usually try to grab a repro PSB. They are much more reliable with better tech.

Wondering if anybody has any insight on this.
I ordered an Xpin power supply and they use the part no. Xp-DE5047 for a bunch of games.
The Xpin board I received has “games supported” printed on it and MSF is nowhere to be found.

As far as I know the 5047 also supports the large display Sega games. The only Xpin I had left was in my TFTC, which I sold and shipped out two weeks ago. Or I would test it for you.

It’s on the list on the PPS site, with a F3 fuse notation.

I don’t have the manual in front of me, but did you check the fuse? You can download the manual from IPDB if you don’t have one.

If the fuse checks out, I would reseat the connector on the board. Check for cold or broken solder joints. From there, you would have to dive in deeper.
