Just to clarify, the post count is not a replacement for karma. I'm still thinking about a replacement for karma points, an indicator of a Pinsiders "reputation". I wanted to get rid of karma first, instead of directly replacing it with something else. And frankly, I'm not completely sure yet what it will look like. I'll open a topic for brainstorming this with the community at a later time.

Note that the post count also acts as a direct shortcut link to someone's latest activity!

    #302 8 years ago

    Karma pts. all gone!

    Where's my cheezburger?

    #303 8 years ago
    Quoted from robin:

Hey, those are my notes. Did you find those on Wikileaks or something?

Nope. View the source or robots.txt comments for an entertaining look into the secret mind of Robin van Mourik. Also, I quoted this on my iPhone! I was ever skeptical you could get the partial quote script working on mobile. Excellent job. Saves me a lot of deleting with my singular thumb.

    #304 8 years ago

Just want to give a thumbs up to the new design + tweaks that have happened since.

At first all the gray was jarring, but I'm used to it now and find the site very readable.

    Mobile is 100x better.

Any chance at all at a feature like the below? From the JPOP thread where someone was wanting a summary of events.

    Quoted from Crash:

Times like this are when I wish there was a way to sort thread posts by post rating. A majority of the extremely informative posts have very high ratings. Filter by those and you can start to build a pretty compelling summary of events.

GREAT idea, please post it in the feature request forum so it doesn't get lost in the mix!

It would still be nice to be able to undock the breadcrumbs as they take a significant amount of space on a mobile screen where space is limited.

Would you mind posting a screenshot from your phone? I'm curious how you see it to consider it a significant amount of space. On my phone it ends up being about half the size of the avatar, which doesn't make a significant difference /to me/.

I like the breadcrumbs, I use them to click back to things on mobile.

    Quoted from Aurich:

I like the breadcrumbs, I use them to click back to things on mobile.

My browser has a back button for that. And this is what the options screen in our profiles are for. A checkbox there to remove on a person by person basis solves it. Even if the breadcrumbs are useful they still don't need to be docked to the top of the screen. Just as easy to tap the status at to return to top then hit the breadcrumb links.

    Quoted from markmon:

Just as easy to tap the status at to return to top then hit the breadcrumb links.

I agree with this. As much as I don't care about the breadcrumbs being there, I have never used them.
I think it may even be unusual behaviour for someone to click to a thread from FrontPage, then back all the way out of it via its path through sub forums. Not saying it doesn't happen, but wouldn't most people just be jumping to and from FrontPage and threads and back?

    #313 8 years ago

Shoulda known it'd be split down the middle.

    #314 8 years ago

PC site looks so much better now.
Was not a fan of the screen name and avatars raised out of the post boxes at all.
Looks much cleaner at this point. Thanks for the changes.

    #315 8 years ago

I just wanted to see if anyone else is having the problem where if they go under their "My Forum Activity" portion of their profile, they receive a "user not found" error. It happens both on mobile and standard access but only started when the mobile update started. Is anyone else having this issue?

    #316 8 years ago

I'm getting the Chinese characters in IE 11 as well. Was seeing this in the prior version of Pinside as well, but there seem to be more characters now, and a number of buttons don't display at all now (e.g. the button to show only posts by a single user, which used to be a paragraph symbol, now does not show up though I get the hover text when I mouse over the empty spot where that symbol used to be, and it works when I click it).

    #317 8 years ago
    Quoted from jlm33:

Not really. A few "pinside legends" like Caucasian2step seldom post, but got 20M+ karma because of their ratings. Others because they uploaded a lot of pictures and videos, or listed many places to play pinball. I found the karma points more useful than the number of posts.

Yeah, I immediately thought of Caucasian2step when I noticed this change. Whatever system Robin comes up with, I hope Caucasian2step gets some kind of special status, since his in-depth game reviews are much more valuable than the vast majority of posts on the forum (certainly more so than most of mine) -- he should be recognized!

Well I still have thumbs up/down on my mobile at least.

I have to use the desktop version on my phone to get them. No biggie, just glad there was an option

I only use desktop mode and it seems to be no thumbs at work, but fine at home & mobile. Probably an outdated Firefox we can't update.

    #321 8 years ago

Regarding the thumbs up/down from mobile...on my iOS device, touching the pop bumper icon will slide open a menu that allows thumbs up/down.

    Try it with this post.

Funny you say that - it was the first design change I noticed on the previous rev and I thought it was clever. Was genuinely surprised how much dislike it got...

I think that was the problem actually, it looked "too clever" to me like it was just trying to be diff'rent.

    #325 8 years ago

I can still click the up and down directly in a chrome browser on Mac. I only open the pop bumper to "change" a vote.

Thumbs downed ya because that was my complaint. Previously I could up down very quickly, but after the mobile update, I had to hit the pop bumper, click the thumb, then close it. 3 steps instead of 1. In desktop mode on Chrome, my up and downs are back.

Technically 2, you don't /have/ to close the box after voting.

I am experiencing the following on both Firefox and Chrome: When an archive search returns more than one page of results, the subsequent pages don't show anything.

    #330 8 years ago
    Quoted from Zorak:

When an archive search returns more than one page of results, the subsequent pages don't show anything.

Please file a "Bug" forum post for this . If possible, with a screen shot showing what you do get.

    #331 8 years ago

Not sure if this was already mentioned - but I get major photo distortion when clicking on a picture to fullsize in the MACHINES FOR SALE threads... The new photo viewer doesn't seem to like desktop viewers anymore.. or is this just me?

Also, clicking on GAME ROOM photos in a user's profile now direct links to the image rather than a lightroom style popup.

Can you file separate topics for each issue? Impossible to keep track of everything in one thread . And as a separate thread, it can be marked "resolved" once fixed.

Photos are good on the first issue you raise; please also include browser information, and what add ons or plugins you have installed with the browser. I can't reproduce your problem with my browser. I don't want to try multiple operating systems, multiple browsers, looking for the One - or exhaust them all and find out that perhaps it's an ad blocker or something Try and provide as much detail as you can to narrow down how to reproduce the problem.

Everything seems to look/work great so far. I have been so busy with family and work that I was away during the switch...I got a beta popup regestration thing.....Was I on a tester witout knowing/accident?

Sooo much more enjoyable on iPhone. Don't really use a real computer these days. Thanks!

Maybe it's just the mobile update that's for sale? The mobile update was brought to us by martians. Hmm. Martians are also in Attack from Mars... Robin HAS Attack from Mars. So, Robin... how much ya want?

    #339 8 years ago

Another thank you score for the mobile update. Very easy to read now. I don't have to turn my phone sideways and scale it to fit the screen anymore. The scale is automatic and is easily large enough font for reading. This easily outweighs the complaint above regarding the need to click the pop bumper to up/down vote a post.

    #340 8 years ago

Hey, Robin! Two things driving me nuts that may have been mentioned already. After I read a topic and return to the previous page, it doesn't put me where I left off, with the topic just read visible on the screen. It pops me down about half a page so that I can't see where I left off. I have to scroll up, find the topic I just read, and then scan for anything else I might have missed.

Also, your "search the forum" box is still searching within topics, rather than searching for topic titles like it did before. There's no quick way to run a search on topics that have been started in the past.

    #341 8 years ago

Did we just go back to the old style or is my IPad screwed up?

    #342 8 years ago

Works great on my phone. I like the new layout.

    #343 8 years ago

This pertains to longer threads with pages in the hundreds. On IPhone when I click on lastest reply tab (top right) it does not bring me to last post only to the second to last page. Or even latest post in when I click on thread in forum or my favorites. Hope there may be a fix for it.

Silly question, but why not just use tags, instead of trying to position the screen via JS?

    #347 8 years ago

I use the hash initially (in case JS fails).

Then javascript is used to scroll the anchor from under the fixed navigation bar.

    - Fixes issue with location names containing apostrophes

Still getting this error on my iPhone with Cow Lick's Ice Cream.image.jpgimage.jpg

    #349 8 years ago

Sorry the above error actually happens at random when clicking "save" in the location editor. Apostrophes are still working fine.
