AFM LED eyes v3.JPG

Anyone know who makes the martians with led eyes for afm/rfm?
I bought the set of four a few years ago and can't remember for the life of me where I got them. I am now looking for a set of two for rfm. Any suggestions? I am not looking to do it on my own

Pinball decals has them.

Hi. If you want to send them out. I can mod them with Leds.
Either on all the time. or only flashing on when hopping.

Are the standard Martians still available to be able to buy?

Again, Pinball Decals has them. The "Rubber" ones.

Funny, I was going to make a similar post. The ones I bought were from a pinsider who usually has them for sale on eBay too. He uses the original wiggly Martians and highlights them with silver paint. I'm doing a new restore and I want another set.

Here's my plan for my AFM's Martians.

Hoping to get the eyes lighting up on each bounce!

Any thoughts or [constructive] comments welcome.

I already have Martians with red LEDs for eyes, they're but currently designed to light with nearby MARTIAN inserts. I'd prefer to light them on Solenoid pulses instead, so was hoping for some confirmation that my design in the picture above was sound.

are the martians from AFM the same as the ones from RFM? I know that AFM had 4 and RFM only has 2, but are they exactly the same?

Also, any feedback on the repo martians? is the rubber better, as it adds more motion when the martians are activated, or are the old stock preferable when obtainable?

thanks for any input.

Your basic idea should work fine.

You don't need the diode shown in your schematic. You DO need to hook up the LEDs so they are in series and both "pointed" in the same direction.

The resistor's ideal value should be R = (50 - 2 * Vf) / Id, where Vf = the forward voltage drop of one LED and Id = the desired current through the diode; both values should be found on the datasheet for the LEDs.

If the LEDs don't light up just swap the wires going from the LEDs and resistor to the coil.

Finally, be careful to make sure the new wires don't touch anything - there's 50V on both wires when the coil isn't firing!

Let us know how it looks!

Hi. yeah thats how I did the ones in my RFM when I had it.
You dont need the diode but I put one on just in case.

It there is any doubt. Ues this.

I used a 2700 Ohm resistor.
What you have in your design will work no problem.

Looking for these for my AFMr, anyone still making these outside of Pinball Decals?

I bought mine in 2010 from Rob Ventura. Have no idea if he is still selling mods...might want to Google a bit or check eBay.

Even if you find them, it's unclear if they will integrate with the updated electronics in AFMr.

If you have an LE, at least you have LED eyes in the topper martian

Yeah that's great, i'm more than capable, but my time is worth something to me. I'd rather just buy a set from someone.
