Recently picked up a mars god of war in much need of preservation. I couldn't find anywhere where you can get the manual. Does anyone have a copy? Also it appears to be missing some parts as some wires have been cut under the PF and there is a hanging metal rod that is supposed to go into a coil but dont know what bracket its missing. I'm not familiar with everything that it should have could someone tell me whats missing and where I could possibly get it?

You can buy a manual and schematic from Pinball Resource as he has the license for Gottlieb parts. (845) 473-7114. Missing all the boards in the head. Someone else will know what swemmer/pascal replacement board options are.

thanks the head is taken apart the board are all there in the 3rd and 4th photo.

I can have a look tomorrow at my game and manual but it looks like you are missing a Z bracket, same as the other ones holding the solenoids for the kickers.
If you can’t find the parts in the US I probably have them.
Mars God of war is a really fun game. Ground mod and upgrade pop bumper boards are recommended.

Looks like you are missing a EOS switch on one of the flippers. If you would like to replace the inner backglass I know a guy who makes reproductions.

#6 1 year ago

Thanks Mach1. I was trying to find the bracket for the missing kicker but the resources I've checked sold out currently. I think everything in the game will have to be gone through unfortunately. The back glass isn't that bad just a bit of the red on the outside and in the green score area I might try to save it if possible. This is the first circuit board (SS) game that I have ever worked on so don't know really what I'm looking at and haven't soldered before so this is most deff going to give me some practice. How can you tell if a board has been updated? I know the mpu looks like is still has the battery attached and it has done some corrosive damage. Hopefully it isnt to far gone. Ive been reading up on the pinkwiki for system 80 things so im sure that will be a good starting point.

There is/was a website that had o lot of info on bulletproofing Gottlieb games.

Pinwiki is a good start. Here you can see if the pop bumper boards are updated/modified or not, https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Gottlieb_System_80#Updating_the_Pop_Bumper_Driver_Board

Also, get rid of the battery as soon as possible. Looks like you might need to do some repair to the MPU board, at least neutralize the acid.

This is what my MGoW looks like where your missing part is,

And this is what my pop bumper cards look like after the update and I added LEDs to indicate 5volt and when the switch is triggerd.

Have you checked Ebay? Tons of used mechs and brackets always for sale there.

Pinball Resource is the go-to for Gottlieb. They are the only licensed distributor of Gottlieb manuals, the company that owns Gottlieb now is very restrictive in their copyright, much to the chagrin of collectors and people interested in preservation.

I would say ditch that original MPU and get a Ni-Wumpf replacement, or get a Pascal multi-board and ditch everything. Well worth the money.

Treat that sound board like gold, they are very hard to come by and very fragile/finicky. If yours needs repair Clive at Coin Op Cauldron did amazing work on mine.

I dont want to blindly go through changing stuff out. Is there some type of guide on how to test each component on the boards? I removed the battery that was on the mpu and the acid went through a few other things. I cleaned it up with white vinegar and then that off with alcohol. At current when I turn on the machine only a few lights come on and the power board leds do not light up so I would assume there is something with the power in. With some wires cut im kinda leary of even putting power through it.

I did check pinball resource and most of the boards on there are out of stock currently. I saw the pascal and its pretty expensive. I would like to save the originals if at all possible. Plus learning a new skill, win/win.

Clearly you have items that need to be addressed first but when you get around to updating the pop bumper driver boards I made a video on the process a few years back on my MGOW. I'll be following this thread for sure. Sorry can't help more at the moment. Got the father's day thing to be about. I'll check back

Some more pics of the missing right warbase scoop mech. And a quick pic of the missing left upper flipper. I also did a video on how to repin connectors on a gottlieb. This would be the first place I would start. Before you go trying to figureout, if any electrical components on boards are defective. I've cured so many problems with re-pining.

Always worth trying to save the originals, but that MPU is looking pretty sad. Lots of corrosion damage from the battery. Since you'll have to replace a lot of those components anyway, try this suggestion from Pinwiki to update the reset section
https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Gottlieb_System_80#Using_a_Reset_Generator_for_the_CPU_Reset_Section

Ground mods, repinning connectors and rebuilding the power supply are extremely important, all of which are outlined on Pinwiki.
