Ha ha! Getting married is total fail! All these people saying I married my best friend are full of it. All it is a give and take. Your best move would to be single. Oh by the way I have been married for 16 years.

Seems you’ve got a tale to tell behind this statement...

Married for 17 years, together for 23 years. 8 moves, 6 deployments, 3 kids, and still going strong.

Anyone here willing to man up and admit they’re married but wish they weren’t?

Put 100 Married Couples in a Room.
Ask them to close their eyes.
Ask them to raise their hands if they are getting too much sex.

How many hands are up? The answer is never going to be over 50.

Happily together, but unmarried for 17 years! Marriage is an institution created by people and beliefs I do not support. What I do support is two independent people loving one another until they die or grow apart. We have 5 furry children together and life is amazing.

50? This is a typo right? I think you have an extra zero in there.

It's possible ALL the wives raise their hands.

It is not possible that even so much as one husband raises his hand.

First of all, not sure if my computer has been acting up the last 2 days or if a problem is going on with Pinside, but I have had problems now for 2 days with forums loading very slow if ever, while other sites I visit work fine.

Anyway, I am amazed by the poll. I figured 50/50 when I did it, I never realized how many married people there was here. I hope I did it where everyone can see the results, that was my intent.

And thanks again to Pinside for adding a option to the poll, when I could not figure out how. This site and the people that run it is very damn awesome!

Anyway, after reading your comments and stories, I know more about how good I have it. My girlfriend of 3-4 years(if she reads that she will be pissed I can not remember the year) loves pinball as much, if not more than I do. At the end of the night when I am ready to turn a game off she almost always wants to play a few more games while I chill with a beer.

When I see the flaws she has, and actually listen to her bitching about something I do she does not like, hell, she is right most of the time and I am paying closer attention now, not that my attention was ever too far away anyhow.

My only regret is like 2 years ago I bought us season passes to Dollywood. While I was taking a smoke break she went into a store. When she came back she said there was a 25.00 ring in that store she would love to have. My regret was I did not buy that ring she wanted, because she is awesome and she does not ask for much.

In my mind at the time I was only thinking about what I had just spent on passes and this trip in general, so a added cost at the time was like a quick hell no. I regret that.

We only went back to Dollywood a time or 2 after that, and I was hoping she would find that 25 buck ring again and I would get it, but if she even did she never said a word.

Anyway, she was married once, and when we first started dating she said she never wanted to get married again but that quickly changed and I did not like that change, but for a long time now she has chilled with that, and most problems are her calling me out about something and after I have time to think about it she is right.

She just 2 days ago made a joke marriage proposal to me, and the way she did it was awesome, like she gets me, and wants to forever be with me the way we are.

The only thing I regret is not getting that damn 25 buck ring, because that is the only thing she has ever asked for. This Christmas I plan to get her a maybe 500 buck gift card to a jewelry store(I know that crap is a waste of money), but just give her a chance to get a ring she likes, and a token of how I do love her and pay attention to her, if only sometimes I am slow about it.

Sometimes she can get on my last nerve with taking too long to get ready to go somewhere, and I can see where I can get on her nerves also, but damn she loves pinball as much or more than me, and we get along pretty damn good, and she lives a 5 minute walk from here, or 3 minutes if I drive to her house.

I have never been married, I have no plans to be married, but someday as long as I am not pressured I may would take the chance with this lady. In the meantime she does deserve a nice ring, just not the wrong kind of ring.

Trust me, dont do this. Gift cards scream “I gave zero thought” which in turn is interpreted as you don’t care.

Get together with one of her close friends or mom and figure out (if you don’t know) what sorta ring she’d wear, and surprise her.

Also, try to locate said $25 ring as well and incorporate it in Christmas, along with the more expensive ring. Maybe in her stocking.

Go the extra mile here. Woman really notice this crap.

I think a lot of married dudes need an escape in some form or another...pinball is that escape for us.

She may not have said anything ... yet. Women have memories like an elephant. Wait until you have your next big argument about money and, odds are, that will get thrown back at you. “You can spend thousands on a damn pinball but couldn’t get me a $25 ring. I don’t ask for much, you selfish SOB!” Then enjoy sleeping on the couch that night.

My wife IS my best friend and there has never been give and take. That’s how we knew it was right - it’s always been soooo easy. All the people who say “relationships are hard work” are with someone they’re incompatible with. I’ve been in give/take relationships and it’s always an imbalance, always a game, always a struggle, always stressful. My wife & I have never had that...just love & laughs and drama-free chill times. We just had our baby ghoul on Halloween! This is just a big ‘ol house of love (and pinball) ...I wish this for everyone.

I’ve been married going on 9 years to a girl I met my freshman year in college. We’ve got a 5 year old son and two dachshunds.

Like many we had our fair share of ups and downs but have worked through all the problems big and small.

We are by no means perfect but work together to accomplish goals both individually and as a family.

#125 4 years ago
Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

“You can spend thousands on a damn pinball but couldn’t get me a $25 ring.

She does not think like that, she is a keeper.

While ago I told her I regretted not getting that $25 ring, but for this Christmas I want you to pick out a ring you would like. She asked what is her budget, I am just saying a whole lot more than 25, (but not pinball type money).

My lady would never throw anything back at me because when we met she wanted to travel and do some things and I have worn her out with that. I was wanting to travel anyway and now she is happy that I am not planning any trips for a while(except closer to home trips).

I was just not in a great mood the day the 25 buck ring came up, maybe I had problems with tenants, hell, I can not remember. And that was like well over a year ago, and I brought it up tonight, she had forgot about it anyway most likely.

As far as sleeping on a couch, those comments were funny, but only one couch here, while 3 other beds would be empty, so I would just go to another bed if needed. And in 4 years now nothing has ever even came close to that. Any problems we have ever had was not even a problem, just more of a misunderstood what you just said/meant.

She is awesome. I can call her and mention I am having ear pain(just as a example), and 15 minutes later she will call back and say I have a appointment for you with a ear specialist. Just saying she is attentive and very helpful.

And HELL NO. I have never been married and I am not getting married anytime soon. Someday I may would marry this lady, but not in the near future.

I will eventually have my will changed so if anything happens to me she is taken care of. I will not tell her in case she really wants the pins and sees the chance to knock me off for the pins that she also loves playing.

And long ago with past girlfriends I have been on the couch. But in this case her house is a 5 minute walk from mine, and she has extra bedrooms also, so ain't nobody around here sleeping on no couch.

All good.

My wife and I have been together 16 years, married for 8 of them. We have a daughter with a son coming in February. Very fortunate to have a wife like her, best partner I could have asked for! Before we had kids I never realized how fulfilling it would have been! My daughter is of the greatest gifts I have gotten!

Yeah, my relationship was like that too until we had the kid and everything changed.

When I reach a point in my life where I find I have too much money and not enough nagging in my life I'll decide it's time to get married.

#132 4 years ago

Been married for over 15 years. It gets Rocky at times but she's a great lady and we share a lot of the same interests. Hiking and traveling being a couple of them. She is not at all into pinball but respects my hobby

Sure! Place your bets! I know it’s hard to explain without knowing the two of us, but we both have had enough life experience with horrible, cruel, incompatible partners & relationships without mutual respect...with that life experience behind us & informing us, our love is beyond anything I can explain. I guarantee we’ll be together for life.

I know this seems very naive in a thread that’s meant to be cynical....and I’m a very cynical person in general lol...but, it is what it is! I love my wife! Sorry?

I wouldn't say everything changed with us, BUT, the most stressful years of our marriage was raising our two kids.

No one will understand this until your kids are about middle school aged.

And even though I love my daughter to death, I'd raise a dozen boys again before I'd raise another girl.

Hi,

Widower here of seven years and still soldiering on. She passed away so suddenly of pancreatic cancer after eighteen years of marriage and raising Her three kids together. We used to really enjoy a domestic break at the pub for pints, pinball and pool. Many good times for us back in the day and then, how easily She was taken! Sometimes makes me think of all the moments I’ve wasted in my life, all the things we were going to do.

Exactly. No reason to say what works for one person is wrong because it does not work for you.

I'm super happy that most everything I do does not require reporting to or dragging along anybody else, I move fast and don't want anything that can slow me down. And my house is the way I like it and is always exactly as I left it whenever I get home.

TRUTH. I enjoyed my single years, had alot of gf's, my bro's and I would have the weekends. Some of them are still single, but my life without my wife and kids? Unfathomable. I could never go back now...

Q: why are divorces so expensive?
A: because they are worth it

#147 4 years ago

Divorced. On very good terms with my ex. We talk daily. We just were never meant to live together. We have a wonderful son that we split custody 50/50. Could not ask for a better situation given the circumstances.

When I was living with my daughter's mom for 7 years, when I came home from work and found she had moved out and took all her stuff with her, I remember thinking it was both the happiest and saddest day of my life. Saddest because my daughter was gone, happiest because her mother was gone, for good.

Having not been married to her saved, I'd imagine, a bunch of paperwork, lawyers, and alimony. That is 15 years ago, and have had a perfect relationship with my daughter, and have been perhaps the happiest of my life since then, with no desire at all to go there again.
