1) The ads will now remain at the bottom of the page--this was changed about an hour ago, as the result of feedback.
2) The option to disable is in your forum settings (click the gear icon).

Robin is taking and responding to feedback being posting in the announcement thread. There have been some good and specific suggestions that have been made so far. A few changes have been implemented already based on that feedback. A couple more will likely be implemented fairly quickly. A few others will likely be discussed a bit more to figure out what the best approach might be.
Every change--and I mean *every* change is met with resistance on this site. Take a breath, offer your suggestions, and rest assured that this is not the end of the world (or Pinside). So keep calm and carry on. 
These are pinball ads--they're not viagra ads, they're not irrelevant google adwords ads, they're not pop-ups--they are just hanging out at the bottom of the page based on what is in the marketplace and shop right now and it's all related to pinball.
As you're probably aware, I post pretty frequently on the forums, and I don't find them too obtrusive. But, there are some things that I can see can be improved, so I imagine there will be changes in the next few days based on the feedback everyone is providing.
I'm anticipating there will be additional items added to the shops soon now that the feature is live, like NVRAM, LEDs, diagnostic tools created by other members, mods created by other members, repaired boards, board repair services, and so on. For instance, the reset fix device that Kahr makes is in there right now, and I see it show up occasionally in the ad strip--I know that's a popular "quick fix" mod for WPC games. So items like those will likely make appearances in the ad strip soon.
As for Pinside Plus, the option to hide these ads is not the only feature. There's a few other perks included.
