Electrical tape on early Bally SS machines??..What is wrapped up inside??

On the left side of the lamp driver board on a few different early Bally solid state machines, there are one or two plugs with wires that are buried inside a bunch of electrical tape.

Has anyone removed the black tape to see how the wires are actually tied into the harness?

Notice this picture inside of a Paragon with one female connector. Notice that the wires disappear into the black tape?

This is all original from the factory.

Does anyone have better knowledge of this?
