Unboxing.

Thanks for the picture of the box- I now know that at least it'll fit in the back of the trunk of my Caddy...
'No sticker issues' On the left side up front behind the front plastic it looks like it isn't laying flat. Plus on the right side rear is looks like it is to far back and has some wrinkles and not laying flat
Quoted from Karl_Hungus:Gotta build this little wedge on top.

Brian Eddy mentioned a last minute design input Tom Kopera did to get the Pepper's Ghost in the player's eyesight. It must have been this bracket, to tilt the topper downward.

Yea, without the wedge the line of sight would be crap.
Quoted from SonOfaDiddly:cool build but the holos look a little static, at first glance
thanks for taking that video
They absolutely do. Maybe a better player can get more going on it. I imagine getting to the Armorer might switch it up.
I think it looks neat enough as a product, but ... a bit underwhelmed by how little it does just in idle mode or sitting there during gameplay.
Players can't really watch a topper while they're playing, it's outside of their field of view for the most part. I don't mind that it's not crazy interactive for the actual player in that sense.
But imo it should at least provide more ambience to the room for people watching or hanging out. I talked up how the cost probably reflected the dev time, and I'm not seeing enough time put into "just looking cool". That feels more important to me than say a mode you only get every 50 games or whatever.
Needs more blinking lights, more spinning holograms, more flickering something, just more "doing shit".
Edit: Thanks for the video btw Karl. I can sense your disappointment, I hope you find that it does more and enjoy it. But I get why your initial impression feels underwhelming.
it's like...they took the projector screen concept of giving you information in your line of sight from Stranger Things and then... moved it out of your line of sight
i don't understand the jump to 2k except that Star Wars is a premium license

You're doing the lord's work, Karl. Appreciate your effort for us!
I'm just not seeing the "wow" factor here for 2K. Hopefully additional coding will get this thing doing what it should be doing...needs more bling. heck I'm more impressed with my Beatles topper I just paid $1,500 for.
Quoted from spicekabay:My german distro just kindly informed me that he wants 3,500 EUR for the topper... no, thank you!
That would be the reaming of the year !!
Wait for Marco to have it in stock and buy there, even with the import duty and VAT it would only be around 2.5k euro.

Can't wait for the "Stern where's the code updates for my topper?" threads.
Now that I can see better pics of it I think it was a missed opportunity to not have some more lights. Instead of a sticker you already have an angled support to run hidden wiring up, be nice if there were actual LEDs to make this panel pop more.
They could just run little looping sequences when it was idle, add some blinky light factor to it. It's $2000, you can buy a few LEDs and wire them up.
You've got a hologram LCD screen, and you're showing a static image on it. Why? If the Mythosaur skull was just spinning in place, nothing fancy, just a slowly rotating 3D model, it would at least feel like there was action going on while it was sitting there.
I don't feel like it's asking for much, the whole concept is still cool to me, it just doesn't *do* quite as much as I thought it might.

The problem with external LEDs is that they didn't use anti-reflective plexiglass. They would make it hard to see the "Action" inside the topper.

A few little softly blinking 'control panel' LEDs up in that area shouldn't really reflect on the plexi in any way I wouldn't think. It's only one thought though for sure.
Is what it is, too late now. I'm just feeling like for the price it could have vibed out more. As you pointed out, Ghostbusters feels cool just sitting there.
Quoted from KozMckPinball:Anyway to get a demo of Mandalorian Madness?
I'd have to play better! I'll try later, but I'm on the way out to see Kevin Smith tonight.
How is this wired? Any chance of a hack to install a generic LCD screen (either as a topper or better, as an apron screen)? Code is there, just need to find the right outputs.
Quoted from Karl_Hungus:Random images after cleaning my lens.

Thanks! Nice to see one in the wild. The attract mode sounds with added video is a nice touch.

I think it's basically a fancy node board with a screen, so the short answer is no.
Quoted from gandamack:Now I could totally see the topper costing $1999.00 if it included some type of functuonality like the Mercury Mistress in the old snl skit. [quoted image]
Are suggesting it would be worth the asking price if it had sex with you?
How clever! It's kind of odd though not sure why you'd want to have sex with a hunk of plastic.
Great video.
Seems like a ton of glare off the covering. Is that a plastic "window?" For 2K that should be invisglass without a glare, no?

Plastic, yes and it should absolutely be non-glare for 2 grand.

Thank you for posting the video and your honest response. I was feeling bad about bailing on the topper after I saw the price but now I feel better about my decision.
Quoted from KozMckPinball:Nothing weird about DIY to save some money for your family.

What an absolute joke of an offering for $2K. Flat plastic with a sticker, and stickers of led's on the front. Really shows zero effort or pride in what Stern produces. Sure they are about making money.. there's absolutely no doubt about that lol.
As a pinball collector of 20+ years, I can't think of any other single item in Pinball that's a bigger cash grab percentage wise. Yep, it is what it is and people will pay it.. so F it seems to be the theme here.
Hope everyone that bought one enjoys it, I honestly do. I don't think I could look at it with a clear conscience knowing I spent $2K of my hard earned money on it though personally.
I hope if people were on the fence, this helps them say "No". It really is a half-baked product. I knew I was jumping in early and had high hopes, but those hopes were dashed. Stern: where's my topper code update?
I think it looks pretty neat.
In your video you mentioned you disliked your R2D2 topper. Would you be interested in selling it?

1.40 lists support code wise for the topper. Are modes missing ?
Quoted from RCA1:[quoted image]
I had that GI Joe headquarters and loved it. Thanks for the memories!
Topper does look like a let down. Hopefully Dwight will put more code on it and add more features to it. I agree the static images are the lazy way out. Needs more bling.

I said he doesn't do shit. I still love him.

Exactly what my wife says about me. Difference is, the R2D2 topper is awesome.

And you better have tall ceilings since you’re gonna have to stand the playfield glass.

Gonna start seeing people modding those retail toppers..!
Quoted from ian866:That would be the reaming of the year !!

This is the way!
Quoted from timtim:And you better have tall ceilings since you’re gonna have to stand the playfield glass.
The “for this price this Better have sex with me” crowd never really seem to be too cognizant of the logistics. It’s just that the idea of their pinball machine and/or accessories having sex with them is so alluring, all other considerations fall by the way side.
