Documenting this really nice The Addams Family refresh. We will be installing a short list of new parts including a new ramp, Titan rubbers, plastic protectors, book case decal, backbox decal, and a few LEDS where they need tweaked. We will be tweaking the pop bumpers with some different colored bodies and skirts.

This refresh will mostly focus on long term bulletproofing to make it last problem free for a long time as it already is very nice. Top side will get stripped to polish, clean, ultrasonic and regrain. We will fix anything wrong or found broken. Rebuilding of all mechs and flipper assemblies and rebuilding the shooter.

Any mods will get soldered directly and the boards are getting sent out to be checked and have NVRAM installed.

We’re also looking to add some spot lights if anyone has some good examples and where they’ve placed them.

Tear down has begun. The usual pics to remind me to where these go at where they mount on the angle brackets of rotisserie.

Pretty normal stuff. Many parts are recent. Plastics all look good.

The green led in the swamp will get a better option than taped in the corner.

The ball gate for trough was a custom made version. Will get the correct wire gate.

Those Canadian screws sneak into every other game I swear!

Top side is mostly stripped. Just some posts or parts that need removed from the bottom.

Decals for bookcase and back wood panel shown.

The tops is stripped. I’m thinking we should get new targets. At least one for the swap with the reinforced DE style.

The bottom side is packed!

The supervisor has approved the tear down and progress.

The boards are headed to Rob Anthony at GEX to be gone through.

For the pop bumpers, we are going to go with Zitt clear bodies and bases and color match skirts with caps. Should brighten it up and still look original. I love the clear bodies he has. Both the true clear and frosted clear. They both have their place depending on the title.

Here’s some examples with what I have in stock.

It has a Cliffy that covered it. It will go back on once I polish the playfield and Mylar.

In a pinch you can use the metal wire handles from a chinese takeout container - the wire holds up a lot better than a paper clip (which tends to break at any bends out time.)

This is of course if you are either cheap or <b> don't have the correct piano wire on hand. I usually just bend all my own missing gates if I don't already have one from a scrapper playfield.

#16 2 years ago

Yep good call! I have piano wire in a few thicknesses. Everyone that works on pinballs should have some.

#17 2 years ago

I didn’t take notice when I did some quick games but I saw it when I lifted the playfield. Must’ve really acted weird in game play. Note the wrong plunger has a plastic washer that was binding.

I rebuilt these with new parts. The other plunger was a bit chewed up. Usually they’re ready to be replaced if original.

All the parts ordered are here now so there’s no breaks Karolina!

I ordered the Pinball Life target supports for these two areas that get beat up. I ended up getting three new orange targets as they were a really ugly and dull orange.

Note the extra support up front and the “L” bracket on the rear of the supports. You will need to drill out the rivets but I feel these areas need the support.

I was going to polish the Mylar areas but they weren’t coming up nice enough. I ended up pulling the two areas of Mylar. One at the pops and by the chair, and one at the swamp kick out.

They came up great and look much better now. I still have to polish the entire playfield.

Playfield polishing is completed. Added some Mylar at wear areas and ball drops including the ball trough drop. I still need to add some that looks clean for the Cousin It mansion window.

Ball guides are regrained and installed.

The pop bumper setup using clear bodies with colored skirts that will match the caps.

Decals are installed. I go wet using Rapid Tac. Someone here turned me onto it and wouldn’t have it any other way. Everyone has their own way. Spit on it or go dry. Dry has always been a disaster for me.

Playfield starting to come back together. I’m going to add a few lighted star posts in a few areas. Not sure where yet but for certain the slings. Blue or purple using clear star posts?

Can you elaborate on the use of rapid tac ?
I've been using windex for a bit now.

Sure, and I’ve used that and than dish soap mixed with water. Rapid Tac allows more working time and helps with air bubbles. It is also used as the cleaner prep before install. It’s only down size is it’s price.

I may be posting less playfield updates and focus on the mechs, ramps, cabinet and other odds and ends for a while. Looks like this may be getting a kruzman playfield. I can attest to his work on my own IPB TAF he had done (was part of a deal when I got my TAF) for someone. I was lucky enough to install it around 2013 and it’s had a lot of play and held up great.

It is official; the thread title needs changed to include a RK playfield swap with a new CPR gone over by kruzman

The old playfield will be for sale along with the Cliffy's. It won't be able to be sold until sometime in October.

Bookcase has been rebuilt with new parts. The switch harness is drying and it will get new switches and a new decal.

While the playfield is still a few weeks out, there’s plenty of work that is getting done.

New switches on some ramps, bookcase finished with new switches, and the swamp accelerator installed.

Started tear down of the old ramp.

I came to this thread solely because of the Ronald Kruzman PF in the title. Good luck with the build.

Titan rings have arrived. I have the colors set with the exception of the sling rings. They will get either a blue or purple lighted star post using a clear star post. But I do have a red, blue and purple star posts too.

For rings, it is either clear, blue or purple. Hope to get some testing soon with different posts lights and rings for opinions.

For now, here’s the rest of the ring color setup but may switch to a few red double star posts.

I just have to say....I've never cared for different colored rubbers on a game. It reminds me of color puking a game with different color GI lamps.

This area of the playfield is red, so let's use a red ring. This over here is blue, so let's use blue. It's too much. Makes your playfield look like a rainbow. I don't want my playfield to look like a rainbow.

I find it's better to pick a color that looks good and compliments the general colors on the playfield. That includes the post rubbers too.

Rings and posts can be different colors but make rings the same and posts the same.

Just a thought.

Thanks Bryan! I agree on some of your comments. However the game owner is ultimately who gets to choose.

New flipper bases look much better than what came out. They’re getting all new flipper bushings as one was so loose it was a miracle it didn’t drag the playfield. They look new but don’t trust them.

Modified the lighted flipper buttons to use the coin door interface rather than running the wiring all the way up to the 12v. Seems redundant.

New lockdown receiver from Kerry with new Titan decal.

Here’s the lighted star post lights. One is purple and one is blue. Pictures really aren’t a good indicator. They all look similar to me but the clear rings would make better use of the lights. Think the purple light with clears will give the best look.

The playfield is in route. Apparently it hasn’t left Michigan completely or didn’t get to the next depot.

While I wait, I’m prepping some of the plastics that need rivets drilled or multi-level plastics assembled.

You can see the clears aren’t horrible but they have yellowed.

Plastic protectors will be used.

A few beauty shots before it gets populated. This should go pretty quickly as all parts have been tumbled, cleaned and re-grained. So it’s just a matter of prepping the playfield.

Take a look at the last two photos. They show the old playfield. Obvious dimpling and insert lifting.

Use the kruzman clear coat prep kit to make sure you have everything needed to ensure you don’t chip or lift clear.

Here’s a hole that wasn’t drilled. I recall having this on another one. Factory has the other unused hole too. No big deal. Take your time and using Ron’s kit I was able to make a new hole.
