Look. I understand that you have no intention of marketing this thing... I respect your decision. That being said:
THANK YOU SO MUCH. Could you recommend any good ready to go/turnkey Pin2DMD suppliers?
I've messaged everyone who has expressed interest in a group buy. Please message me if you are interested and haven't yet received a PM from me.
You can pretty much buy two of these for the cost of the competitive product. Additionally Malenko the Magnificent is already working on a T2 colorization.
The same panel/setup as Malenko the OP. The only thing else you need is a tiny micro SD card ($6 off amazon) and the firmware from lucky1 which I believe carries a $10 license fee. Tap in power (which is easy to find on a gotlieb) and the ribbon cable from the DMD board, drop SF2 files from Malenko's google share onto the SD card, good to go.
Here's a YT video I found:
Here's an installation guide:
Quoted from lucky1:
Rappelbox wrote in the german forum that he was in hospital and needs some time to fully recover. So maybe you need to have a little patience.
Basically this. I PM'd ImNotNorm with this info as I wasn't trying to broadcast Rappel's personal situation.
The terms remain the same though; Payment by the 12th, shipping on the 14th
Attention group buy folks: Would anyone be interested in delaying shipment for a few days so that Rappelbox can unlock/register our panels prior to shipment? This would mean that the units would be ready to roll upon arrival instead of having to wait for the unlock process to complete. Thoughts?
Thanks for the clarification! I've made the executive decision to follow this path. This will reduce complexity and furthermore I damn well know that each and every one of us want to play with our new toy immediately vs waiting for the process to complete post-delivery.

Arg I missed the group buy :/
Group buy closes on the 12th. That is when everyone needs to have payment to Rappelbox. We are pushing the shipping date back to the 19th as this will allow Rappel to send us what is needed to unlock the devices prior to shipment. If you want a panel please PM Rappel directly.
Attention group buy participants: The correct donation value via PayPal is 10 Euros, not $10 USD.
Appologies. I've been pretty buy lately. I'll PM Rappel and see what's good. I saw that he hadn't logged on here since the 20th. I hope he's okay as I know he was discharged from the hospital recently.
Anyone here like German porn?
I was also sent a pic of a lot of shipping labels. Stay tuned for details.
How do you say "SHIP IT" in German? Tracking info/links should be on it's way later today.
Google the tracking number and select Canada post. I got the same message from Deutsche post. You need to track it via your countries mail service site.
I really with those AC plugs located on the incoming power box were switched and not constant. That would be a slick spot to plug in a AC-DC adapter and run to various add ons... I could probably mod it so the sockets turned on with the main switch but at that point it's probably more trouble than it's worth...
Whhhhaattt?!? I'll check them when I get home. Shit, I have enough DC power supplies that I can use for this task. I'd rather do that than molest my machine.
Anyone else have their unit clear customs? I believe mine is stuck and that is NOT a good sign.
I'll be damned. I checked the AC power sockets and sure enough one is switch. I'm going to grab a AC/DC adapter and tap my DMD's power in that way!
Quoted from Rappelbox:
The provided power supply is capable of using any input from 6 to 32 Volts so there are some options
Most important is amperage and fuses used on the power line you use! Since the panels could theoretically draw up to 7 amps (in fact the ofter use less than 1A) a decent supply is strongly recommended.
I have a [email protected] supply. I'm assuming 42W will be enough?
Malenko is correct. You don't use that while plug with the Pin2DMD, only the ribbon cable. You can get power from anywhere you want provided the line you're stealing current from can support the draw (per Rappel's comments). So you have two choices:
1) The method from the video: Solder the hot/red wire to the 20V flasher circuit on the back board. Attach black/ground wire to any ground.
2) The Smithers' method: Plug in a AC/DC adapter to the switched AC port on the power box, wire that shit up to the Pin2DMD. I'm literally going to use a spare adapter I had laying around from an old Dymo label printer (ignore the red box).
Malenko's method is different because he already has a stand alone switching power supply.
Thanks for the pic. I'll take some as well when I get everything installed. I wouldn't have to worry about hitting ken. My ball never see's the ChunLi return...
Tracking shows mine delivered. Unfortunately I have to get my hair cut at 5:30PM EST. DAMMIT! lol...
So funny you should mention that! I was assuming based off youtube videos. I have the newest and there is Gottlieb 1, 2, and 3. Any idea which one to select? Here's a quick video:
The car crush is currently black and white. I'll toy around some more.
After some further testing using the Gottlieb V2 profile I'd say it's 98% there. Periodically it loses color on certain animation but when you have so many variations in firmware that's to be expected. Frankly I'm surprised Malenko was able to avoid this issue from happening more frequently. I'll be doing a dump for him so that he can examine any aforementioned instance.
Quoted from ImNotNorm:
was wondering if anyone could tell me if this will work for the DMD.
It'll work. Assuming there's nothing fancy in the supply that would shut it off if it was a foreign device.
Quoted from TimBoch:
I noticed that you connected your DMD power (red wire) to a 5V 15A connection, I have a 5V 16A option, would that be sufficient? Or would the 12V 4A option at the top be better. Also, I expect that I can just connect the DMD ground to either the ground in the back cabinet, which is only a foot away, or connect it to the ground on the power supply.
You can honestly use either. Personally I'd use the 12V as there would be less current used. Do not connect the ground to the pin. Connect both PIN2DMD power lines to the power supply.
I'd check to see if the packages were insured. If so file a claim with the post service and use those pics. Hopefully you can get an entire replacement panel out of the deal. That really sucks. Do you think you can epoxy it back together to make it semi functional until a replacement frame can arrive?
Quoted from cocomonkeh:
Well it wasn't a flasher fuse it was a diode. So if anyone knows the strength of the backbox fisher diode, let me know
Tried powering it from the old dmd harness (12v) and it doesn't want to light up. I don't think it's getting enough voltage so I'll have to try the outside power supply option until I fix my flashers
Dude that made the YouTube install video said not to use that line as the voltage drop was too big. Use the 20v flasher line or a stand alone power supply. I measured the wattage and it never exceeded 5W. These panels draw virtually nothing.
How does one go about updating their ROM(s) if they don't have access to a burner?
You'd need to do a data dump using the Pin2DMD tool. Basically a recording or what is going on behind the scene. Then indicate at what time the glitch occurred so he can take a closer look. I periodically get the original gray-scale animations but I don't care enough to seek resolution.
