I got some large led panels to play around with. Who needs speakers when you have Malenko dmd artwork.

I noticed that but didn't have time to look into it. My normal pin2dmd looks fine on the machine and I know that the firmware on the boards I used for the large one was a custom build from lucky1 that he sent me when I was having issues trying to get mushroom world working. I'll have to reflash the boards with a stable firmware and try it again when I come up with a better mounting solution.

If you'd like I can probably convert the palette jumps to color mask sequences that dont use any actual color masks.

Me too...I need to get my sound roms re burned though first. Otherwise whats sf2 without the gutteral “eeeaaaaauuuhhhuhaahhaa” noise when they die?

Got the display working but having a hard time getting the custom color palette and redrawn animations to show.

PIN2DMD version is 2.67 and running the files from Malenko. All of my text is white and it looks like a generic color mask was applied to the animations. Anybody have any ideas? Another user was having this issue (psychopat) but I never saw the resolution.

you have the 2 files, pin2dmd.pal and pin2dmd.fsq in the root of your SD card and the display is activated?

Yes on both counts. The display itself works fine, I just can’t see any of your magic.

Also, my pin has the latest ROMs.

I dont remember the specifics, and I regrettably sold my SFII a while ago. I think it was Gottlieb mode 3 with enhancer on? This is more of a lucky1 question , I just color the dots :/

I’ll try changing some of the settings tonight to see if it starts working. I currently have it on Gottlieb V2 with enhancer off. Also tried V2 with enhancer on and didn’t change. Will try V3.

And for anyone listening, lucky1 and dpannell were both fantastic with support and helping me get my PIN2DMD going. I was having some weird hardware issues and both were more than happy to help.

Is the display activated ? Did you copy the activation key to your SD card?
Gottlieb V2 with enhancer on should be correct for you.

The display is activated using the key file loaded to my SD Card. I tried it with the enhancer on without success but I will try it again. Fingers crossed!!

Update time, still having same behavior with enhancer on. Tried to capture a few pics to show what’s being displayed.

When you first power it up do the colors at the top match the order of the ones in the picture at the top of https://pin2dmd.com/?

Please try to make a video of the startup of the display and attraction mode. Are you sure the pin2dmd.pal and/or pin2dmd.fsq are not corrupted ?

Forgive the sounds, my son is playing some iPad game where you kill enemies with flatulence.

Also weird, after a while of attract mode the activation message comes on. I do have the key and the pin2dmd is activated. Perhaps my key is corrupt?

Is the key file renamed pin2dmd.key instead of the deviceid.key?

No I don’t believe I renamed the key file, I copied it as I received it. Will rename the file and report back!!

Yeah if the key file isnt named then the display isnt active and that probably the hold up.

Your file is for a Nucleo and does not need to be renamed. A display not activated is not using colorization code.
Make sure that the number on the screen matches the keyfile used and the keyfile name.

For some reason this pin2dmd isn’t activating via the SD card. Proper key file is on SD card.

GUESS WHO HAS A WORKING PIN2DMD!!! I've finally joined the club and the artwork is beautiful. It adds another dimension to the game. My issue was SD card related. I don't know if the SD card was fault or if my windows machine was writing to the card improperly. I switched over to MAC, got a new SD card, and we're in business!!

I havent touched it in a LONG time. If someone can supply a dump where the triggering didnt work I could try to fix more triggering issues; Im a lot more proficient at the tools than I used to be. Ive been concentrating on finishing the Getaway then I have some contract art work to take care of.

My issues were actually from a bad DSPROM. After I got a new one, it works 99% of the time. There is one animation that is not done -- Balrog making an uppercut (or something) -- super rare I've only seen once or twice, some kind of bonus. Regarding Balrog though, his animation is kinda janky. Doesn't match the turnaround punch gif you posted in the thread, which is awesome. But those are nitpicks, I'm totally satisfied. Will be stoked for the true Balrog animation though. And some color on the hurricane kick (fireworks) shot since it happens so often

So the issue with the Balrog (aka Boxer) animation is its only 3 frames, so any replacement animation has to also be 3 frames. What happens is frame 1 plays and triggers the animation, then frame 2 plays, then frame 3 plays, then when frame 1 plays again it triggers the animation all over again. If there was a way to make the animation uninterruptible I could make the animation longer like I planned but I had to deal with the limitations of the editor. If you can think of 3 better frames, I'd consider updating it.

I do agree that the animation is a little janky but it was kind of making fun of the original animation (which is hilariously terrible).

I did consider replacing all of the defeated fighter animations with their actual defeated sprites and quotes, but then you'd lose the dynamic "fighters remaining" aspect of the screens.

So this is absolutely amazing @latenite04! I've got a SF2 coming soon and looking to do the Pin2DMD conversion. Can you describe what you've done here? Which panels and from where? What hardware version and version of the code are you running? Did you need to change the code at all for the large panels? Have you thought about routing out a new speaker panel to house the large leds because it looks like it would just fit in the head.

I have the v4 shield with a Nucleo-144 board, whatever the newest firmware is should work. The panels are P5 32cmx16cm, they have the same number of pixels as the p2.5 panels just more spread out. Two of them just fit in the head width, there's about 1/8 of an inch on either side. The v4 shield mounts directly to the p2.5 panels and it should mount to the p5 panels but I used the hub75 extension on the shield and the cable that comes with the screens to hook it up. You could easily make up a custom panel to permanently mount the larger panels or you can just remove the plexiglass from in front of the dmd, drop in a thin sheet of steel and use the magnetic standoffs to mount it.

has anyone looked into putting an autoplunger in yet? Like so many Premier/Gottlieb games, they really need an autoplunger on the shooter lane, and usage in the rules, to really take the games to the next level
