Hey everyone!!! Do you like competitive pinball? What about casual pinball? How about playing with friends and new people? Would you like to play an amazing collection of 30+ pinball machines all in amazing condition including some pretty rare titles? How would you feel about winning some large cash prizes? Getting a custom tournament t-shirt and sticker designed by Double Danger Pinball? I think we have all of that and more for you at Main Street Mayhem, September 17th-18th, in Lafayette, IN!

Main Street Mayhem is a two day match play format tournament at Main Street Amusements. The tournament will be held on September 17th-18th, 2016. Entry fee is $75 per person and that price includes a custom designed t-shirt and sticker available only for tournament players. Tickets will be sold online. The tournament is limited to 64 players total. Every penny from your entry fee, after subtracting the cost of t-shirt, sticker, and ticketing service goes into the cash prize pool. Minimum we are looking at a $3200 (pending full registration) prize pool with cash payouts to the top 4 players in each division. The Champion is looking at a $1200 payday! Coin drop will still be required for games, but Main Street Amusements has agreed to run a PayRange special pricing of $.50 per game, so at an absolute maximum you will spend $15 in coin drop over the two days for 30 games of pinball.

Tickets go on sale June 1st, 2016 at 12:00 PM EST @ http://www.eventbee.com/v/tsskinne/event?eid=113546514

Where's the Tri-Zone coming from?

#7 7 years ago

It's typically at MSA, but out on loan at the moment.

#8 7 years ago

Can we start a side bet as to whether TBL will be ready?

Quoted from Lysurgeon:

I'll pay someone else's entry if it's there and someone else will pay my entry if it's not?

#10 7 years ago

Haha that's pretty fair, I'd have to double check but I know MSA # is in the 30's, it has been shared on their Facebook page before for sure.

#11 7 years ago

Ooo I was slightly off. 43.

Quoted from Tsskinne:

Day 1: Qualifying 7 rounds. 4-player groups, 3 games per round. Pinburgh Scoring 3,2,1,0.

Top 16 from Day 1 will be A Division for Finals on Day 2.
17-32 seed will be B Division and so on thru D Division.

Tommy can correct me if I'm wrong.

#14 7 years ago

OK so do you play different people in the qualifying round or the same four people for every round?

#15 7 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

You change people every round. And if he is doing it just like pinburgh you are grouped with people that have similar scores as you.

#16 7 years ago

This is correct. Sorry I missed messages. First round is random pairings. Every round afterwards is people closest to your point total.

Descriptions of finals are correct 1-16, 17-32, 33-48, 49-64.

Top two advance each round. Bottom two keep playing for finals positions.

#17 7 years ago
Quoted from Tsskinne:

First round is random pairings.

any thought on using IFPA standings or ratings for first round. It would help take out a bunch of randomness from the event.

Speaking from experience when you do this it helps to normalize things quicker.

Exmaple: Randomly a decent player gets in a 4 pack with 3 great players. They handily lose and randomly end up in a grouping of other losers that are not very good players. They easily win and now move back up. Already 3 rounds deep before things normalize.

Use rankings and ensure a spread of player ranking to start and things level out much quicker.

Tommy - Will MSA be open the Friday night before the tournament, or will they be prepping games for Saturday morning?

Just saw an ad for the tourney on the California Extreme Finals 2016 video.

#21 7 years ago

I'm in!... Looking forward to getting my ass kicked by the top players that are attending! It'll be a great time!

-Steve

#22 7 years ago

Yeah Cal Extreme hooked us up with an ad and didn't even tell me, I saw it while watching live and was super pumped. I hope that we can fill this thing up. Matchplay also just added the ability to creat tournament banks so I will likely be doing just that to help split up the eras of games and balance styles closer to how Pinburgh does. If you aren't signed up get signed up, if you are signed up recruit some friends and local players!

Middle of the night bump! 1 month away... Looking forward to it!!

#24 7 years ago

Thanks Steve!

As some of you have probably seen I am getting out of the collectors side of the hobby unfortunately due to some sudden life changes. Unfortunately that means AMH and RZ will not be at the tournament now. If that affects anyone's desire to play please contact me and I am happy to refund you your entry fee minus $2 which is what the ticketing fee is from the website.

I truly hope it doesn't as we are looking very forward to it. The tournament is still definitely 100% taking place and should be a lot of fun pinball in over the two days.

Main Street amusements did just add a Willaims Fire as well as a Gottlieb EM Mayfair. We still have our fingers crossed that stern comes through and delivers the Ghostbusters before tournament time.

#25 7 years ago

I just signed up! I'm pretty excited. Right now I am heading up from Cincy alone. I will try and rope some others from here into going. I went to pinburgh for the first time this year (only sat/sun) I obviously didn't compete in the main tourney but I did play in the Intergalactic side tourney which was loads of fun. I've only been competing for a few months now so I am probably donating my $75 but hey you never know. And I am sure I will get $75 worth of fun out of the event. Sorry to hear AHM and RZ won't be there. Fingers crossed for GB premium. I guess I'll cross them for TBL too - but I'm not holding my breath. Played it at pinburgh, I was impressed.

#26 7 years ago

You must be Mr. Chad Hobbs! Thanks for signing up! We look forward to meeting you here. Bring a car or truck load of people with you

#27 7 years ago

Good luck Chad! Represent Cincy! I'll be in red rocks so I cannot make it. Bring Stu and Chelso!

#28 7 years ago

Hey there Tommy... Will there be any discounted room blocks at nearby hotels? Making travel plans this week.

-Steve

#29 7 years ago

At this time I don't believe we will be setting this up through a specific hotel. I have posted some helpful links below though.

AirBNB has several reasonably priced options and those are all directly downtown likely within 5-10 minutes walk tops to MSA.

https://www.airbnb.com/s/Lafayette--IN?checkin=09%2F16%2F2016&checkout=09%2F18%2F2016&guests=1&room_types%5B%5D=Private+room&zoom=14&search_by_map=true&sw_lat=40.39031231738907&sw_lng=-86.89996031778674&ne_lat=40.44056874587163&ne_lng=-86.8594482328258&ss_id=me8s05bh&page=1&source=map&airbnb_plus_only=false&s_tag=wIJ_rsrA

Kayak search engine also provided several good offers for that weekend, and again anywhere in Lafayette isn't going to be more than a 10-15 minute drive to the arcade. At the arcade there is typically plenty of street parking as well as a $1 pay lot located directly across the street.

Are there a lot of spots left?

#31 7 years ago

Yes we still have 33 spots left as we just had 1 cancellation last night.

#32 7 years ago

I may have someone that would want to come but I wouldn't know till the day before. Would that work?

#33 7 years ago

Yep, we are going to leave registration open the whole time so people can make last minute decisions if they want no big deal, we will play as many people as we can, hoping to hit at least 48 although I'd really like to fill up the full 64

#34 7 years ago

oh also we put in shirt order the other day, they will be like this but with black sleeves instead of purple.

I found a relative's house to stay at so I'll probably come Friday night to practice a little before Saturday.

Will there be banks of games to choose from on Sunday or will we get to choose from all of the games?

#39 7 years ago

THIS EMAIL WAS SENT OUT TO ALL REGISTERED PLAYERS ABOUT AN HOUR AGO, but for those who haven't decided yet to get in on one of Indiana's biggest tournaments I'm posting it here as well.

This is just a friendly reminder that you have signed up to participate in Main Street Mayhem! The event takes place September 17th-18th at Main Street Amusements in Lafayette, IN. The doors will open at 9 AM for check-in and practice, tournament will start at 10 AM. Main Street Amusements, the awesome hosting location, will be open regular business hours on Friday the 16th, 7PM-11PM for anyone who comes to town the night before and wants to get a bit more practice in.

Games, especially some of the longer playing titles, will be modified to play tougher and shorten game times during the tournament, open outlanes, tight tilts, no ball saves....pretty normal stuff.

The t-shirts and custom plaques are literally being printed today and tomorrow and shipped out this weekend all coming from Double Danger Pinball out of Oklahoma! Because we did not fill the 64 player spots at this point in time I made some modifications to how the entry fee money was used. Your entry fee was $75, the ticket processing services fee was $2. All of the remaining $73 is being put into the prize pot, and the t-shirts, stickers, and awards are being paid for from other funds. This should still leave us with a prize pool of $2000+, pending any late registrations.

Lastly if you have not already done so I strongly encourage everyone to download the app PayRange. It is available on both Android and Apple device app stores, and Main Street Amusements will be running special pricing via the app on the games during the tournament. If you rather not use the app to pay the games do accept tokens but they will remain at full price then for the duration of the event. If less than 32 players show up on tournament day we will modify so that at least half are eliminated from the A division to insure maximum WPPR points for the event.

I am in the process of establishing the tournament banks, and will post that information publicly as soon as they are finalized. Attempts are being made to balance the banks based on ball times and eras of games, but because the location is DMD heavy some banks will obviously contain more DMD games, and some SS & EM games will be used in multiple banks.

Thank you again for choosing to come and play here. The event is designed to be fun, and encourage competitive pinball participation. We will do our absolute best to run a smooth event, and we look forward to seeing all of you.

Any questions please feel free to reach out to me via email or text. [email protected] or 574-596-2668.

Again thank you,

Tommy Skinner

How are those tourney banks coming along? Can't wait to see the list. I know AMH and RZ are out... But there was also talk of SMVE and BL and GB premium? Any of those going to be there? I have not yet played a GB premium - that would be neat. Then again the pro is brutal and I'd rather not play it in a tourney! heh. Then then again again... tough games tend to be a boon for the less skilled players such as myself. GB can easily gobble a skilled player up and spit him out while I eek out a 34M to 40M victory! ha! I still haven't broke 1B on GB, high score on my local machine is around 5-6B!

Yes SMVE is there the others are not.

#44 7 years ago

Hey guys! Just finished going through this, it is not completely final because well it is pinball and who knows what could break or be added this week still....Dan was told GB Premium should be delivered this week and we are crossing our fingers, but not holding our breath! TBL is on the second container, which Dutch Pinball has not shipped to my knowledge. Spider-Man VE and Game of Thrones Premium are there and playing awesome as are all the other titles at MSA as Dan has busted his butt going through every game over the last two weeks in preparation. Lastly if you don't follow Main Street Amusements on facebook Dan announced yesterday that all coin drop from the weekend is being donated to a no kill animal shelter in Lafayette, and that everything the machines make this weekend he is going to match in donation as well, so a dollar spent at MSA this weekend = $2 to a no kill animal shelter in town! Lets face it, we all know animals are better than humans so this is a great cause!

Here are the tournament banks as they sit. I have tried to separate longer playing games from one another and coordinate banks to offer varied gameplay styles and eras of machines as best as possible. A few of the early solid states and EM machines are each used twice to help accomplish this goal.

Advice for the weekend. As timing continues to bite me in the ass on this tournament the city of Lafayette has just moved their downtown sidewalk renovation to the 600 block which means right in front of Main Street Amusements eliminating the most convenient parking directly in front of the arcade on the street. Lucking there are still lots of options for parking in the area. I made this rough sketch on top of a google map earlier today to hopefully help everyone out.

I'm glad my secret parking place isn't marked on that map.

Do we have to play the banks in the order they are shown?

If we do, it may be best to take into account play times on the overlapping EMs and early SSs.

EDIT: No Walking Dead?!

#46 7 years ago

Next time you have a tournament like this (if there is a next time) and you want some more EMs or early SSs, I'd be happy to bring one or maybe two.

#47 7 years ago

No do not need to be played in order, groups can play in any order to avoid over lapping. Agreed when tourney was planned we had 4 more SS and EM games but lineup changes happen and not much we can do.

#48 7 years ago

Slight change up! I forgot to include Space Shuttle, it has replaced the duplicated use of Spanish Eyes which I am sure is a relief to some!

Also just got tracking # for our shirts and awards, they should be delivered and unveiled to the public on Thursday night!

Are those free parking lots always free on weekend/after hours? I'm always afraid to park in there, even though I know no one is working at that time. Always afraid my car is going to get towed.
