Very sad to hear this news. My son stumbled on it and became a fan. I was really surprised to see how sharp the writing still was. More recently a talented friend of ours started illustrating for them.
When he was in grade school, my son went one Halloween as Alfred E Newman. None of the kids knew who he was but the teachers were in stitches...which I suppose is one big factor why the magazine is ceasing to exist.
89272CF2-DD06-4EEF-9B32-0AD0531FC95A (resized).jpegI thought it was gone any some one tried to revive the brand. A staple of my childhood in the late 60’s along with 12 cent DC comic books. RIP
Was a great read for me as a teenager in the early 80's.
Anyone else remember reading Cracked magazine?
Ugh....
Well, with Jack Davis gone, and Mort Drucker, I assume not on staff as he's 90, there hasn't been much propping this up for quite a few years.
Still, really a sad day.
Recently found two moving boxes full of old MADs at my parents house, during their move. I told my kids how funny they were, and that I read them cover to cover at their age. Yawn. Maybe I can sell them on eBay.
Absolutely loved Mad magazine. Collected them for awhile and built up a pretty nice collection at one point.
Anyway loved the satire and the sarcasm. Had a substantial influence on my sense of humor.
Sad to hear the news that it will soon be gone.
Spy vs Spy.....now Ill never know who wins?
RIP Mad, found memories growing up with this mag....till I found my Dad's Playboys!
Quoted from chad:I was just going to mention the Data East game that never was.
Too bad, it would have been a classic.
Quoted from Eric_S:Bummer to hear. I have a huge Mad Magazine collection and have some hanging in my gameroom for decoration. I even have a copy of every single MAD paperback book.[quoted image][quoted image]
Ha! I have that framed picture hanging in my bathroom.
It was in an old issue I bought at a comic book store in the 80s. My dad had it framed which my mom thought was ridiculous.
Quoted from GSones:Sorry to see it go. I learned everything I needed to know about humor from Mad Magazine.
Humor in a Jugular vein.....
My dad bought the Alfred E. Neumann for President for the Kennedy vs Nixon election He had the bumper sticker on the car and wore the button, the whole none yards. Wonder what happened to the button?Sorry to hear this, another example of tastes changing in America and probably not for the better.
I do remember how theyh were constantly bringing up the EDSEL car for whatever reason and also bringing into all kinds of "skits" Ida Lupino, why I have NO idea!
Snappy answer to stupid question
panel has a guy walking into a room , hes bent over holding a clothe to his head with sweat just dripping off him.
Idiot says "Hot outside?"
snappy answer " No traffic was bad so I came hear by sewer!"
I just caught the story on the news. It sounds like it just won’t be on the newsstand anymore. They mentioned that it would still be available in comic book stores and direct mail.

Yes, but no new content, just reprints of old material.
Terrible news...MAD was one of the best 'adult' magazines of its day. Growing up in the mid 60's I never missed an issue...I was a young reader (4 y/o) and have every issue from ~1966 to 2002. What I find truly amazing is the type of humor that MAD portrayed. I simply cannot see kids today "getting" it. Lot's of then-current political humor which, as a child I actually got! Of course it made me grow up apolitical, lol.
MAD will truly be missed.

Reprints of old issues untill all is fulfilled. Then the plug is pulled.
Weird Al mourns along with is all...
Comicbook.com: Weird Al Yankovic Admits He Is "Profoundly Sad" Over MAD Magazine Cancellation.

Another sad reality of the internet..cell device..crap 24/7 politically correct age.
Very funny shit....they made fun of everything!
Dave Berg's The Lighter side- (good drawings).
Mad movie satire
Mad TV satire
Sergio Aragones (gone awhile, granted, but the hidden characters in his pages are hysterical).
Don Martin
Spy vs Spy
Mad fold ins.
You got this and more in every issue when I was a kid.
Our price - $0.90..cheap.
It’s hard to explain to my kids how important t this mag was. Most humor on tv at the time was insipid. In a world full of sarcasm and cutting humor today, it’s hard for my kids to understand that it was not always like this. Mad was intelligent, questioning, and for its first 30 years made you look at the world with a sense of criticism while laughing your ass off. The end of an error.
Bummer...I've had an uninterrupted subscription for more than 4 decades...I'm holding out hope that it's a publicity stunt...
I used to enjoy it as a kid in the 80s. No, I didn't get all the jokes, but still enjoyed it. Then I read an issue in the library and was surprised to see advertising put in it. Felt like the beginning of the end right there.
Was surprised to see it was still in publication. I know Cracked(the lesser of the two) went belly-up ages ago(the website doesn't count), and Crazy had even edgier humor, and went south in the 80s.
I currently have a subscription, it comes every other month. Still sharp with the social commentary, and my 9 year old gets a kick outta the potty humor. Shame if it goes away.
MAD and Wacky Packages shaped my sense of humor, scepticism and pointed cynicism. The culture today doesn’t get it. They celebrate money, selling out, corporate greed and a military that runs roughshod wherever it wants.
There no room for MAD magazine in a world that embraces authority and questions nothing.
My favorite was the movie parodies. I can’t even remember how many parodies I read before seeing the movies, but it was a ton!
Many I probably never even got around to seeing the actual movies.
I have a book that will never leave my bathroom. I bought it for 5 bucks... cheap. Perfect bathroom reading material. Found it on the table in the Barnes and noble vestibule. 50 years of MAD.
Sad day....Long expected though from former staff.
I visited the offices many times in the 80s, as family friend was Editor for a while, Tom Nozkowski.
He just passed away in May.
The office life was just as crazy as the magazine!
Now I know I am old!
"MAD magazine places you first in line for a medal in contributing to the countrys important problem of JUVENILE DELINQUENCY."
havent heard that term used in quite a while. guess its not pc anymore. what do they call "juvenile delinquency" these days?
Quoted from chad:Reprints of old issues untill all is fulfilled. Then the plug is pulled.
The news mentioned new content will be made for year end issues and special editions. So it might not be totally done.
I never read Mad Magazine, just would hear it mentioned every so often. Hate to see something run that long go down. One I did follow was Fangoria magazine. That nearly ended as well, now quarterly published.
Media as we know is unfortunately dieing a slow death....
I remember walking into the local grocery back in Dec. 1964 and seeing this issue on the magazine rack. Freaked me out until I read the small text. Too bad it's true now.
I loved reading Mad and Cracked magazine back in the day. I would always check them out in the magazine isle when I went to the grocery store with my parents. I never had a subscription until Weird Al was the guest editor, so I bit in order to get the numbered cover art lithograph and then I had him sign it. Perfect gameroom decoration.
Anyone watch Mad TV in the mid 90's?
