I really enjoy inline drop targets like on Paragon but havent had a chance to play many pins that have this feature. What other titles have them and does anyone know what the last game made that includes them was?

#2 12 years ago

I had a quick check on IPDB, which lists Sterns Wheel of Fortune as last in 2007. Before that you have to go back to the late 80's. My favourites to play are Paragon, Eight ball delux, Centaur and Flash Gordon. No room for mistakes on FG or the ball drains

I thought Paragon was the first but on IPDB it seems that Future Spa was first?

Bally Fathom has two different 3 in-line drops that you need to drop after you capture the balls in the saucer to enable multiball. Fun.

Shane those games do NOT have inline drops..

Inline are drops that are behind each other, not side by side..

#6 12 years ago

Harlem Globe trotters world tour. Actually a really good game and you can find it cheap (250 bucks working)

Oh neat! Learn something new every day.

8-Ball Deluxe has them doesn't it?

#9 12 years ago

Here's a pic of a Fathom, it has them on the RH side and up top.

I'm working on getting a Centaur right now actually. It has a captive ball inline drop set. I hope the deal pans out!!

Elektra has a captive ball drop target set
Party animal has a set of 3

Thanks everyone for the input. Looks like I have a few pins to track down and play. Im kinda digging Fathom. So green. The outlanes are a real change up for sure. I could probably track down a Wheel of Fortune to play as it isnt that old, although I notice that its not mentioned much on this forum and its ratings arent that great. I dont care. Inlines are cool. I just want to play. You never know what machine you might really, really like unless you try them.

Bally's Special Force has in-line drop targets. It has the added feature that you can collect virtual "missiles" and use a second pair of buttons to shoot down the drop targets without hitting them with the ball. It's a pretty good, usually under-rated machine.

#19 11 years ago

Flash Gordon
Fathom
Centaur
EBD

I am sure there are a few more

#20 11 years ago

Bally Black Pyramid. Come see it at TPF!

This game is weird and awesome. Saw it at an auction once.

Black Pyramid is not worth bothering with IMO. Fathom looks sweet though, I have never played it.

I would've bothered with it... one sold here locally that I just missed out on, to another local guy, for 100$, IIRC.

Mmmm...my old thread about inline drops. Still love 'em.

For $100 I might make an exception for it There is on at 1984 Arcade here locally that has an issue if you hit the moving target in the middle the ball pops up and smacks the glass. Every time. It scares the hell out of me every time I do it. It is a pretty game, I will give it that.

#27 11 years ago

Flash Gordon was the first that came to mind. Great game.

Metallica LE looks to be bringing them back.

Af-Tor has Outlane drop targets.

#30 11 years ago

Wheel of fortune has them too

#31 11 years ago

I thought T3 did too.

#32 11 years ago

^ not quite. T3 only has the single drop target guarding the lock lane underneath the T-X wireform.

Fathom, with it's in-line drops guarding the two lock saucers, is a highly under-rated game.

Bally Vector has them too. You must drop ALL 6 in order to make the ramp shot to capture a ball in order to prep for multi-ball. (If you don't drop all 6 and make it around them and up the ramp, then it kicks your ball back down)

Those are not in-line drop targets. Cool game, though!

Millionaire. You'll have to make the skill-shot from the shooter lane.

Anyone have a cheap inline drop target game for sale near me?

#42 8 years ago

Better late than never

I have always thought that Paragon was the first game to use in-line drop targets and that it came out before Futura Spa. But I see that
IPDB puts Future Spa a few months before it. Strange. (The pinball Compendium has Paragon out first)

Anyway. It was a Bally innovation that brought so much extra fun to the table, and for a while Bally new how to milk that extra feature. Must have been a Bally trademark, since not many other companies did them.

Here's the ones I know about, roughly from when they came out

1979

-Paragon
-Harlem GlobeTrotters
-Dolly Parton
-Future Spa

1980

-Hot Doggin'
-Viking
-Frontier

1981

-Flash Gordon
-Eight Ball Deluxe
-Fathom
-Centaur
-Elektra

1983

-Joust

1984

-Black Pyramid

1986

-Special Force

1987

-Hardbody
-Party Animal
-Dungeons & Dragons

I might be wrong, but Can't think of any games with this feature since 1987, until 2007

2007

-Wheel of Fortune

2013

-Metallica

Edit: Updated with Joust and Dungeons & Dragons
Edit 2: updated with Elektra and Party Animal

#43 8 years ago

Wow no love for dungeons and dragons. Three online drops on top of the right ramp that protect the million point bell tower shot. Very tough shot to make but one of the most rewarding in pinball imo

#44 8 years ago

wow, no mention of joust? two sets of in-line drop targets (both sides of the playfield). dropping both targets and passing the both through afterwards gains you a 4-ball multi-ball and unlimited balls for 15/30 seconds

#45 8 years ago

Thanks for the additions.

This was exactly why I brought this thread back from the dead, to see if I new them all.

Updated my list. Cheating, I know

#47 8 years ago

Party Animal isn't on your list.

Do any of the Zaccarias or Playmatics have in-lines? I think so, though I may be misremembering.

#48 8 years ago

Did I really forget Elektra and Party Animal? I feel a blush coming on

That's a great question Eala. Will do some investigation on Zaccaria and playmatics.

#49 8 years ago

does Defender count? there are two drops in the upper left that could be considered in-line, but not in the traditional sense as they are two single drop mechs positioned one behind the other.
