No Good Gofers [No Good Gophers is an understandable mistake]

Robo-War [Robo Wars is pretty common]

Bram Stoker's Dracula [who is Bram Stroker?]

Doctor Who [you see Dr. Who sometimes]

Attack from Mars [I still hear Mars Attacks sometimes, obviously from more casual players]

Other examples?

#2 4 years ago

People say Laser Wars instead of Laser War. Not that big a deal though. Basically the same as the Robo War one.

A lot of people mix up ‘Steaming Pile of Shit’ with Street Fighter II. Common mistake.

#4 4 years ago

Dr. Dude and his something something.

O' you mean like "Gootlib", or "Bollie"...?

Or how about Batman Forever, when it's just Forever. No place that I've ever seen on it does it say Batman, even though we all know it is but just a pet peeve of mine....LOL.

Another one that I'm guilty of myself is saying Crypt Tales instead of Tales From the Crypt.

How about Big Bang Bar when all it says is Big Bang on the translight, not sure about the rest of the game. I always thought it looked wrong on the translight too......

Last one that comes to mind is Barracora, most people can't figure out how to say it so I just say it for them....LOL.

I know the OP is talking about machine names, but

"inlines" instead of "inlanes"

"a code" instead of just "code" or "the code." It may seem nit picky, but when someone says, "this game has a good code," it will drive a programmer nuts.

#7 4 years ago

I’ve seen a lot of people spell Oktoberfest as Octoberfest or ocktoberfest

#8 4 years ago

Is it Pin Bot or Pinbot????

#9 4 years ago

A bit differnt but i have heard Hit the ball with the " paddles"

#10 4 years ago

Alien for Bally Space Invaders.

Calling any of them “tables”

#12 4 years ago

Doesn't Bugs Bunny's Birthday Ball often get incorrectly called Bugs Bunny's Birthday Bash?

#13 4 years ago

when browsing german for sale ads it can get quite creative my favourite that keeps popping up: The Gateway

#14 4 years ago

Several podcasters say Johnny "Noo"monic

I’m amazed at the number of people on this forum that refer to bumpers as ‘bumbers’.

203 posts using bumber, but who’s counting

#16 4 years ago
Quoted from stooped:

One of them says White Wooder. WTF is a Wooder? And white wooder has a ball trow.

#17 4 years ago

Can’t tell you the amount of times I have heard Airborne.... a Capcom pin referred to as Airborne Avenger... the Atari pin.

#18 4 years ago

Common mistake: through [sftroe] instead of trough [trof]

Pins: how many people say Creature of the black lagoon and also use CFTBL. (People, just TRY to understand the abbreviation).

#19 4 years ago

Special forces instead of special force

#20 4 years ago

Bugs Bunny's Birthday "Bash."

#21 4 years ago

The Slap-Save pinball podcast guys say "Pen-Ball". Probably a St. Louis accent, but it sounds funny.

Zaccaria: Before I was corrected, I (and many others) said Zach-a-Rye-a, when it should be Zach-a-re-a. Kinda like diarrhea with a Zac in front

Not pinball related: but people is Minnesota say Motorcicle; like ice cicle. Drives me nuts! It's a "Y", not "I"!!

#22 4 years ago

1966 Bally Caperville. Always read it as Casperville, never seeing a friendly ghost on the backglass, could not figure what the theme of the game.

#23 4 years ago

Adams Family

#24 4 years ago

Flash Gordon getting called Flash

#25 4 years ago

“Orbiter” instead of Orbitor (because Orbiter was already owned by another company so they just made it “or”

#26 4 years ago

Chicago Coin instead of Chicago Gaming.

Quoted from vicjw66:

Being from Philly, I approve of this pronunciation.

Chicago Coin instead of Chicago Gaming.

I’d like an elaboration on this? I know Chicago Coin did the old EMs and branded them as such in the 70’s did they change hands/names?

How about bride of Pinbot
actual name is : The Machine........bride of Pinbot

I've heard TOTAN referred to as Aladdin a couple times.

#31 4 years ago

Not just a game, but the whole manufacturer... friend of mine calls them Gottle-ibs.

First time I saw it, I was so drawn to the playfield, I never really did read the translite, ended up thinking I played "Orbitron" for a long time. Still like that name better, ha...

Quoted from WolfManCat:

The genie isn’t on the cabinet front and center. Well, at least not “that” genie. Robin Williams would approve.

#33 4 years ago

how about Medieval Madness? or is it Ye Olde Medieval Madness?

#34 4 years ago

Well if you want to get technical
Champion Pub is really The Champion Pub.

#35 4 years ago

Speaking of that, why do people refer to The Champion Pub as Championship Pub? Where is that coming from? I've heard it a lot.

#36 4 years ago
Quoted from Tomass:

Is it Pin Bot or Pinbot????

Neither. It's actually Pin*Bot

#37 4 years ago
Quoted from vicjw66:

One of them says White Wooder. WTF is a Wooder? And white wooder has a ball trow.

It’s too “fustrating” to say it right.

Right on!! And you know the NFL Eagles pin has to be "The Iggles"

#40 4 years ago
Quoted from stevevt:

No Good Gofers [No Good Gophers is an understandable mistake]

I think No Good Golfers is an even more understandable mistake considering that's whats written on the backglass.

Cool topic.

Theater of Magic

“White Wooder” for the win!! If I were from New Hampshire... and I am, I would say "White Waddah" ... I like Wooder better

#42 4 years ago
Quoted from tjc02002:

"Oribter" or "Orbitor" instead of "Orbitor 1"

Oh we’re getting technical now :b call it by it’s colloquial name, The Bathtub

#48 4 years ago
Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

Oh we’re getting technical now...

It's literally the entire point of this thread. (Not that I've ever called it that)

#49 4 years ago
Quoted from brenna98:

Zaccaria: Before I was corrected, I (and many others) said Zach-a-Rye-a, when it should be Zach-a-re-a. Kinda like diarrhea with a Zac in front

Well that's not how it's pronounced during the attract mode of Devil Riders or Farfalla... "Give it your all with Zach-a-Rye-a pinball."

You would think that the creators of the games knew how to pronounce it.

Champion Pub is really The Champion Pub.

I know a guy that routinely calls it Pub Champion.
