Saw a guy write "Dr. Who, M.D." on a tournament score submission sheet once.

That would be an interesting show to watch...

#52 4 years ago
Quoted from snyper2099:

You would think that the creators of the games knew how to pronounce it.

Then my Robot says "Challenge the robot from Zac-a-re-a". Perhaps it doesn't matter.

Does anyone ever refer to BOP by it’s actual name, “The Machine - Bride of Pinbot”?

Or how about No Fear as “No Fear - Dangerous Sports”?

Or how about:

Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy
Al's Garage Band Goes on a World Tour
The Who's Tommy Pinball Wizard

Or Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure

#56 4 years ago
Quoted from boustrophedonic:

Or Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure

That’s a good one.

Not really the same but I see a lot of calling the Stern IJIJ4”. Probably to easily differentiate from the Williams IJ: TPA.

I also hear a lot of people call Stern Star Trek “Stern Trek” but I guess that would be a functional corruption.

#57 4 years ago
Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

I’d like an elaboration on this? I know Chicago Coin did the old EMs and branded them as such in the 70’s did they change hands/names?

Chicago Coin is long gone. Chicago Gaming is the current company that remade Attack From Mars, Monster Bash etc.

I see DH instead of DW all the time... Dirty Headless Monks?? or if you want to go WAY into the wayback machine Doctor Haemovores!

“Listen, Punk. To me you're nothin' but Dalek meat, you understand? And a lot of things can happen to Dalek meat. It can be scraped up with a shovel off the ground. It can dry up and blow away in the wind. Or it can be stepped on and squashed. So take my advice and be careful where the Dalek meets ya!”

I purposely call my Gold Wings “Top Gun”

#60 4 years ago

"IMDN"

#61 4 years ago

How about the common manufacturer name gaffes?

William's. Who is this guy William who has so many games?

Which leads to Sterns, or even Stern's. I've even seen Stearn's. Or Bally's, etc.

As for messed up abbreviations, WH20 bugs me to no end. WH twenty?

#62 4 years ago
Quoted from DanQverymuch:

Yeah i always read it that way at first. Then i see it’s W-H-two-oh and it makes sense. I’m sure people spell it with a zero too. But it’s better than those who call it WW - sorry fellas, that means whirlwind!

#63 4 years ago

I have seen panthera 2 a few times on CL.

Its a much better game than the original!

Quoted from Completist:

Note I did use a zero there, that's what bugs me. Capital O's are rounder.

#65 4 years ago
Quoted from golfingdad1:

A bit differnt but i have heard Hit the ball with the " paddles"

That one drives me knucking futz. I know, I should learn to relax, but dammit, paddles are for kayaks!

And of course, Pete Townshend did NOT write about a kid with "crazy paddle fingers"!

#66 4 years ago
Quoted from Zennmaster:

crazy paddle fingers"!

Edward Scissorhands spinoff about his deaf and dumb cousin?

#67 4 years ago
Quoted from DanQverymuch:

Yes noticed that. I knew you didn't think it was called WH-twenty . Being able to subscript the 2 would fix this one.

Beat Time and the Beatles

Quoted from poppapin:

Beat Time and the Beatles[quoted image]

Classic mistake, musical heathens confusing a legendary group like The Bootles with some druggy weirdos from the 60’s and their weird beatle group

#70 4 years ago

Lectronamo is one I hear as electronamo or even something completely different which I was guilty myself at first.

#71 4 years ago

Catacombs instead of Catacomb

#72 4 years ago

Not so much calling it the wrong name ....but I frequently see people struggling with the spelling of Medieval and Twilight.

Double checking I have spelled them correctly now

#73 4 years ago

Speaking of misspellings, I found it amusing or annoying, depending on my mood, the amount of times I read "Slimmer", especially when Ghostbusters just came out...

I thought you guys were all idiots, ha, but then realized, you're likely just using your phone (something I never do), and it's just auto-correct.

#74 4 years ago

I have talked to several people and heard them refer to Monster Mash, not Monster Bash. I guess they like that dumb Halloween song. Not the pinball.

#75 4 years ago
Quoted from athens95:

"It was a graveyard smash"!!

How about Translate instead of Translite (Translight?)

#77 4 years ago
Quoted from Ive:

Evil Knivel and Johnny Pneumatic or other twisted variants. These are the top two IMHO.
Medival or other manglings is third.

Added over 5 years ago:

Adams Family is another top bungle of a game name.

Because its Addams

#79 4 years ago
Quoted from golfingdad1:

Because its Addams

Yeah? Exactly.

#80 4 years ago
Quoted from HarrieD:

Common mistake: through [sftroe] instead of trough [trof]

Trough is pronounced TROF, not TROW. I once heard an actor in a western call the horse trough a horse TROW.

Laser Ball. People see the stylized "S" on the back glass and immediately think it's a Z and call it Lazer ball.
Laser ball (resized).jpgLaser ball (resized).jpg
even the lettering infront of the drop targets clearly say "LASER BALL".

#83 4 years ago
Quoted from jeffc:

[quoted image]

Damn, cheap too!

#84 4 years ago

I have seen Fish Tails but I don't know how the story ends.

#85 4 years ago

Calling any rubber part a bumper...even better "bumbers"...

Although Gottlieb may be to blame calling flippers "flipper bumpers" on the Humpty Dumpty ad. Just doesn't sound right to me.

#86 4 years ago

Guns and Roses instead of Guns N' Roses.

On a related note it's Axl not Axle.

#87 4 years ago
Quoted from jrpinball:

Trough is pronounced TROF, not TROW. I once heard an actor in a western call the horse trough a horse TROW.

Usually people call this a TROW instead of a TROWEL.

As long as I know what the person meant I am not bothered by spelling/grammar mistakes. In the end all that matters is the information coming across. Doesn’t have to be in perfect form to be understood.

#89 4 years ago

My wife calls WOZ - WIZ.

#90 4 years ago

Back in the old days people would advertise a game as "needs shopped". Don't see it much these days thank god.

Creech! Or creatures from the black lagoon is actually creatures from the black lagoon in 3D

#92 4 years ago
Quoted from wdennie:

How about bride of Pinbot
actual name is : The Machine........bride of Pinbot

How about plain "bop"? That one threw me for a loop the first time i heard it.

#93 4 years ago

I have heard people accidentally say 'pool comp' instead of 'pinball comp' so many times that i have caught myself doing it sometimes.

That f***ing piece of sh*t ................ when they actually mean Popeye

Poor old Popeye

Poor old Popeye

Says the guy who own Rolling Stones and Night Moves

Used to own and love Popeye too

Wrote the rulebook on it

I saw a CL ad featuring a “Williams Bros” EM.

#98 4 years ago
Quoted from snyper2099:

Well that's not how it's pronounced during the attract mode of Devil Riders or Farfalla... "Give it your all with Zach-a-Rye-a pinball."

You would think that the creators of the games knew how to pronounce it.

This.

#99 4 years ago

What is the correct pronunciation of "Bally"? Rhymes with jolly? hawley? valley? I've heard people say it all three ways, I always pronounce it like valley.
