Just starting to get this project Lucky Hand up and running. It was a mouse house barn find with major cosmetic issues and so I’m doing the restoration backwards. After restoring the playfield mess I’m now starting on getting it playing.

It came without a transformer so I put in a used one and got it to where it lights up and score motor resets to home position but when I manually activate the start relay the Subtract Ball Count Unit coil plunger fires constantly even though it is reset to its home position and the big solenoid on the Sequence bank arm fires repeatedly and of course the score motor runs.

I’ve checked and cleaned the switches on the AX relay and they looked to be gapped correctly. I’ve also cleaned up the BCU stepper and the Lightbox Advance stepper but still no luck. Any ideas where to look would be greatly appreciated. I have the schematic.

It seems like AXR Relay's not energizing which is keeping the the AX Relay
    in its locked position.
For the AXR to energize, a set of switches need to be making when the
Light Box Advance Unit is in the zero (Reset) position. A couple wiper blades
(snowshoe wipers I believe) in the Ball Count Step Up need to be making contact
to it's wiper board while in the reset position, and also (which I'm thinking is
where the problem most likely is) a set of contacts need to be making in each
Score Reel when their in their reset (on zero) position..
Also 2b score motor contacts need to make, and the R (Hold) Relay needs to
be energized which I'm sure it is..
At 15E, you'll see the AXR circuitry on the schematics..

Thanks a bunch @mopar. That sounds like a great explanation of what I’m getting.

I’ll be checking on it tomorrow morning and let you know what I find.

Thanks for all the detailed advice Mopar . You nailed it. The large contacts on Score Motor 2B were filthy. Once I cleaned them up everything is resetting fine except I need to adjust a runout switch on the 100s score reel. The credit button also wasn’t working but I ran that down to a bent open switch on the Credit Unit.

Thanks again, lots of time spent on this one so far but I’m getting pretty close now.
