As mentioned in my Jacks Open / Lucky Hand thread, last night I traded my Gottlieb 2001 for a Gottlieb Lucky Hand! I'm very excited to have this title in my lineup, and for the very fun game-play and rules-set, the fact that my small collection will now have one AAB example in it!

I love the unique 1,110-point scoring triple-chime feature as well -- very melodic!

The playfield is in fantastic condition, thanks to the great work of the Pinsider I traded with, and there are a few minor things I will do to complete the restoration on this one. The biggest question for me is what to do with the cabinet. One side is in very good shape. And one side is very faded from, presumably, sunlight exposure.

Here are some photos and would love some thoughts on what to do with the cabinet (leave it alone, try touching up just the reds and blacks but leave the white, touch up everything, or try a full repaint). Not sure if there are Lucky Hand stencils or not. I have done a full repaint (see my Atlantis restoration thread), but not sure if I could do it without stencils -- and not sure I should on this game anyway. Would love input there.

I'll post more questions as I have them. For now, here are some photos:

Here's the fairly decent right-side of the cabinet:

60% will tell you to leave it alone and then the other 40% like me will tell you all day long to get it repainted. If this was my machine I would have this in que to get painted so quickly.

Yeah I hear you -- and that's probably about where I am mentally right now: Leaning 60% toward either leaving it or just doing touch-ups, and 40% doing a whole repaint (either myself or paying for it down the road -- can't afford that right now)...

Save up some coin in the meantime and have it professionally repainted. It will be something you will cherish for years to come.

Nice catch!

Full Repaint if it were mine, but many would just leave it as is.

Thanks, Tim! I wish I could have gotten that Melody too -- this worked out well since it was a trade, though.

You had a shot at a Melody? WOW, now there is a game I love even more than Lucky Hand. It's funny how I changed my mind on things in 4 years. JR had a nice Melody for sale and I passed on it and bought Joe Grenuk's LH. Then I sold LH after buying a Melody and picked up a Pleasure Isle. Something about those metal Jewel posts coming out of the tumbler gives me wood. I never in a million years thought I would prefer 2" flipper games... But the cool thing is if you play 2" flipper games for a few hours, then go onto a 3" game, you kick it's ass.

Yes TunaDelight has a gorgeous Melody that just needs a thorough tune up. Alas, $ is very tight right now so I was able to do a trade with another Pinsider for LH but not buy another game (Melody).

I forgot which "Melody" it was that you passed on. I had one that came my way twice, then another one that I got for a "Mini Pool"at the York show several years back. It must have been that one, because I traded the other one twice; once for a Williams "Swing Time", and then to Vic for a "Mata Hari". Vic then eventually traded that "Melody" to someone else for his "Volley". As far as I know, that guy still has it. I hope you can follow this!

Had. Sold to another EM collector now. Pics of it, if interested, can be seen here:

You are a better man than me Mark in being able to trade away such a nice looking 2001 as you did! HOWEVER, that said, if I had a desert island game, it would be Jacks Open/Lucky Hand so I guess I'd do the same if I had to. And you got a beauty too!

Yep, that's what I was thinking. Hated to part with 2001, but JO/LH is among my desert island finalists (along with Atlantis and Quick Draw). And it went to a very good home!
