The old grease had turned to glue. I cleaned it all off and decided to put it back dry.
It is working like a champ again. For my home use pin, I did not think new grease would help very much.
This was exactly the problem with my Airborne when I first got it. Virtually every mech in the game was all gunked up at the pivot point. Like you, I thoroughly cleaned everything, and then reassembled it dry. Been working perfectly ever since.
