LOTR Problem.jpg
#1 10 years ago

Howdy,

After two years I have had a chance to get the LOTR working. First problem was no 12v but I traced it to a dead cap which I just replaced and the 12v LED is now working.

So next problem is that all the Group 1 coils are not working. In that group are:

#17 LEFT SLINGSHOT Q17 BRN J7-P1 20v DC VIO-BRN J7-P2 23-8000 090-5001-00T
#18 RIGHT SLINGSHOT Q18 BRN J7-P1 20v DC VIO-RED J7-P3 23-8000 090-5001-00T
#19 TOP SAUCER Q19 BRN J7-P1 20v DC VIO-ORG J7-P4 26-1200 090-5044-00B
#20 BALROG MOTOR RELAY Q20 BRN J7-P1 20v DC VIO-YEL J7-P6 DC Relay 520-5066-00
#21 SWORD LOCK RELEASE Q21 BRN J7-P1 20v DC VIO-GRN J7-P7 27-1500 090-5004-00T
#22 BALROG MOTOR Q22 BRN J7-P1 20v DC VIO-BLU J7-P8 Motor 041-5088-01
#23 FLASH: HELMS DEEP LT Q23 ORG J6-P10 20v DC VIO-BLK J7-P9 #906 Bulb 165-5004-00
#24 OPTIONAL COIL Q24 RED J16-P7 5v DC VIO-GRY J7-P10 Opt. 5v

I doubt whether all the drive transistors are dead so has anyone got any more ideas? Could it be the Bi-Directional Relay under the playfield? Anyway to test that relay if it is the problem?

A fuse?

May sound too easy but have you checked the F7 5a slow blow fuse? Also check to make sure that the door is completely closed and that the interlock switch for the door is hooked up and is working. Maybe a wire fell off and the door switch is not being activated? Are your flashers working in test mode with the door closed or the door switch pushed in?

Well there is my best guess. Anyone else have a idea? Let the tech advice flow!

The 20v circuit is dead horse. But you know that.

1. Remove the fuse and check with a meter.

2. Check the door switch wiring. Easy for a wire to come off. I had the same thing happen on my TSPP and it took me an hour to pick it up. Door switch kills the 20v.

3. Check the interconnecting wires between the two boards.

4. Check the square plug that comes from the transformer. This carries all the voltages to the power board. The pins in those plugs can push out and not make contact.

That will hopefully sort you out horse.

Thanks for the replies

The fuse is fine. 20v LED is alive and bright.
The door switch is good, all working and wires are connected but I'll check continuity from the door switch wires back to the connector.

I'll check the flashers tomorrow but I seem to recall some weren't working. I'll also check the plugs etc for wires that may have come out.

Report back tomorrow.

Thanks

If the 20v led is on, door switch should be ok.

Check the 20v at the test points on the board.

If present, check for broken wires between board and Playfield.

Or damaged molex connector on the 20v solenoid outputs.

Okay, so some ning nong decided if the 20v light is on that it must be getting 20v. Wrong. I guess I was put off when I had nothing, then replaced the cap and the 20v light came back that I had the correct voltage. Bridge 2 was stuffed and putting out 44v. I replaced that and it is all working now.

Next time spacies don't look over the basics.

Thank you guys for the replies.
