Thanks to the guys from zanzabar that threw the after party tonight. Tons of fun.

    #303 9 years ago

Couple photos from tonight. Sorry, they are in no discernable order. It's 4:30am, and I'm tired. I'll get more tomorrow. The best photos were right when they turned the house lights on (10 minutes before shutdown time).

And I bought myself this for the gameroom back home .

    20150306_210108.jpg20150306_210108.jpg

Got to meet some fellow pinsiders, which has been cool. Finally met PinballMolly; she was super nice and very respectful.

More to come later this weekend!!!

    #304 9 years ago

Very nice photo set, NPO. What was that NIB machine? I couldn't quite make it out in the photo. The wife and I will be there starting at door opening today.

    EDIT:

Wait, does that say Back to the Future? Awesome.

    #305 9 years ago

Had a GREAT time last night! Best show of the year imho.

    #306 9 years ago

Excited for my first time at the Louisville show!

What's the food situation like down there?

    #307 9 years ago

My favorite spot nearby is the Mussel and Burger bar. Its near the corner or Hurstbourne and Taylorsville. Maybe five mins from the expo.

    Quoted from darkfaith:

I am selling the Stern shaker motors for 160 shipped. I do not ship the mirrors, they seem to get damaged to easily.

    #309 9 years ago

What is the new in box Data East pin? Even the box is rare from that time frame nowadays.

    #310 9 years ago

It was just an empty box, unfortunately

    #311 9 years ago

Yeah the DE box is a BTTF box, but there's no pin in there. That's too bad .

Here's the pins over at Zanzibar's Bar and Grub Pub 20 mins from the Expo. Games are in GREAT shape for being on location. Someone loves their games!

    Quoted from Collin:

Excited for my first time at the Louisville show!

There's a solid number of fast food locations all up and down the main road. The real fun places (mom and pop eats) are a good 15-20 mins away.

None of the pinball vendors (PinballLife, Marco, etc) are here. Trent has lots of PF glass, which I snagged 2 sheets of brand new for $25 a pop. Some cool novelties and you have some cosplayers here with the arcade/console portion of the expo. Overall, very unqiue, fun, and different. Definitely glad I came so far.

Met Winteriscoming with his JP and upgraded Trex - VERY cool to finally see it in the flesh. PinballMolly came by and we talked for a couple minutes. She was very down to earth and polite; I was glad to finally meet her and thank her for bringing her collection out to the general public. Met the guys over at VPCabs; they have a lot of games for for demo, and they build quality is very professional. Someone has a booth with an Esclera pinball mover, and that is definitely a site to see.

I was going to buy the promo poster for JM, but Snurdley told me I'm not because he has one for me for free!

If you want to say hi, I will have one of my LifeIsGood shirts on and jeans. There is another guy that has LiG shirts as well, but I think he was keeping watch on the door for the show. Anyways, time to go for a run, and then I'll head back to the Expo. More pictures to come later late...late....late tonight.

Bro in law and I will get there this afternoon. Im wearing a shirt with an alien playing pinball. Roads all clear now?

    #314 9 years ago

Any ideas when/if the PAPAtv guys will be broadcasting?

    #315 9 years ago
    Quoted from Erik:

They are pretty good overall. We didn't have any issues on the road other than VERY light congestion in terms of Friday night 5pm traffic.

Just showered and chilling with my friends. Heading back down to the floor in a lil while.

    #316 9 years ago

I had to disable the upper left flipper on SoF, but it should stay running all day now

    #317 9 years ago

Just played that a bit ago. Really cool and fun game even with the flipper out. Thanks for bringing it out.

Weir pinballs potc is beautiful and the T Rex upgrade did not disappoint. Your sof looks awesome even if that middle flipper isn't working.

    #319 9 years ago

Didn't stay for the full time, but the wife and I got there just after opening and stayed until about 2. If you saw a guy wandering around in a blue plaid shirt and black T-shirt that was me. I played pin, wandered the arcade cabinet area, played Duck Hunt in the classic console area, got a raffle ticket, etc. Was great. I also went to the David Crane seminar, very interesting to hear some of the more technical aspects of programming games for the Atari 2600 and hear some of the stories from that era. I also bought (since I didn't dig mine out before hand) a 2600 pitfall and had it signed.

My wife and I spotted several pinball machines for sale, but we really need to sort out space before we look into purchasing. We got to play test several different ones, though. Perhaps by next year we'll be more sorted space wise and get our first home pin project, I'd love to take a machine in need of TLC and bring it back to life.

Alrighty boys. I set the bar on LAH. Come get it!!image.jpgimage.jpg

    #321 9 years ago

More pictures of random stuff. Holy crap was it packed earlier today. Honestly, there's simply not enough games per person here. Lines aren't insanely bad, but every game pretty much has a line at least 3+ people back. From 1pm to about 5pm - holy crap, it was nuts.

Very interesting crowd between pinball players and the arcade/home console/cosplayers. Very diverse group we have here. Definitely worth the drive though. Games for $ale are very few and far between; this is a location to get your game on. Enjoying it all!!

I haven't had much exposure to EMs. I happened to find my wife on Nip-It and watched her play.

The the owner came by and pointed out that there was a third flipper button that simulates having the gator eat the ball at the top of the playfield and get it to go down a lane that scores some good points. I gave it a try and it has some really awesome features that seem beyond what I've come to expect from pinball. It has a really cool feature where when a specific target is hit, the flippers slide towards the center to completely close the middle off when they're down. When you roll over a different switch, they move back out. Really cool stuff and has me considering this as a pin I want to track down for my collection!

    #323 9 years ago

I found a video that I appear in twice, taken during the event today. First at 3:38 you can see my wife and I at the CSI machine. I'm in the blue plaid, she's in the pink jacket. Then, as the guy makes his rounds, I appear yet again at about 5:49 for a second. I was walking up to the table where the Pitfall cartridge and manual was purchased (see my earlier post in this thread, up the page a few posts). Therefore, this video was taken just before 12:00 EST today because I was about to head into the seminar.

    #324 9 years ago

Loved the Joust as always, had a 4-man little tourney. Thanks for bringing it Phoebe.
    The MM played great, Coney.
And the POTC was beautiful...such a sweet glossy shine.

Is the expo focusing more on overall-arcade experience? It seems the number of pins was way down compared to last year. Still a blast...thanks to all that brought their machines!!

    Quoted from lancestorm:

I think a lot of this had to do with the bad weather.

    #326 9 years ago

I left for the night. Apparently a ball got stuck in JP. I'll have to get it in the morning. It's off for the rest of the night. At least it wasn't an issue with the t-rex!

    #327 9 years ago

Son of a bitch. Just realized they did an A And B division. Would've tried a tad harder. Great show.

    #328 9 years ago

I had more fun spending the evening at Zanzibar. No lines for STNG, MM, Champion Pub, TWD, and a few more. Plus good beer and food.

Wasn't impressed at all by the selection of pins and video games at the expo. Waiting in line for Attack From Mars or others really wasn't worth it. Congrats to everyone that pulled it off but probably won't be back.

    #329 9 years ago

I was literally one person behind when this happened. Your buddy called you while I was there. Looking forward to playing it tomorrow hopefully. Thanks for bringing it out.

Zipper flippers were (one of) Bally's really cool innovations. If you liked Nip-it, try Fireball (the 1972 EM)... or Medusa (an outstanding and gorgeous early SS).

    #331 9 years ago

Heading down this morning, hope to see some of you guys there.

    #332 9 years ago

Well on my way back home my wife decided that "her" next pinball would be potc. We had a great time this year and will be back next year for sure.

Did seem like less pins than past shows. Guessing the weather was the reason.

Thanks to everyone who brought games. Winteriscoming's T.Rex is fantastic. Also I enjoyed Travis' very nice SoF despite the nerfed flipper.

    #334 9 years ago

I enjoy playing games that I have never played before which happen to be less popular, typically. The really popular games aren't really worth the wait for me either but its cool to see people excited about playing them. I most of all appreciate the effort and time involved in getting them there and the wear and tear that can be involved. I haven't brought a game yet but I think I need to get one or two there next time.

Hands down my favorite part is meeting new people and putting faces to names. I love hearing everybody's stories and why they are there. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting other pinsiders like Colin, Futurepinhead, Ptrav1, Dutchtommy, Larry from flipnout, and other old friends. The handful of games that I played were secondary to meeting/seeing everybody.

Thanks to everybody involved in putting the event on!

    #335 9 years ago

Looks like a good time, really thought about heading down, but the weather and the 5 hr drive didnt seem like a good combination. Maybe next year..

    #336 9 years ago

Don't exactly know how much longer SoF is going to hold up today. The upper diverter plunger has mushroomed out and is causing ball jams. I'll try to keep it fixed but I may have to call it a day with it. Sorry everyone.

    #337 9 years ago

Dang that stinks. I enjoyed playing it while it was up. Still pretty fun even with the upper flipper disabled haha

    #338 9 years ago

Just chiming in to say the two days (Fri + Sat) that I, my wife and two young girls spent at LouArcX was awesome! We had a fantastic time and the organizers should be very proud of hosting a truly family friendly event. The crowds did get heavy (but not overwhelming) at times and even then, it was great to be able to let my kids roam while the wife and I lined up for pins.

I understand the pin selection was down and there were a few titles I'd anticipated that didn't actually show, but I understand life happens. So big thanks to everyone who brought titles, much less for constant play. There was hardly ever a time from open-close where a pin was not under play. I'm not sure if this is due to renewed interest vs. the standup vids, or play time, or what. But that said, the waits were not unreasonable. I'm grateful to have experienced so many games in the flesh that I only just heard of the first time a few months ago. And even a few rarities. And to sample other eras - EMs are a bit more charming than I expected.

My only disappointment was the total lack of parts vendors and such. With the promoters touting all the supplier goodies for those providing machines, I was expecting at least a limited selection of basic parts like rubbers, bulbs, and coils and such if not arcane machine-specific stuff. But I did get a sheet of PF glass from Trent (thank you).

Whomever had the MM, AFM, ACDC, etc on the back wall, those machines were gorgeous and thanks for sharing. Also enjoyed seeing the modded Trex. I didn't get to really meet anybody because I was generally keeping tabs with the wife and kids... but everyone was friendly, and I enjoyed a few line chats, so if next time you see a guy trying to show two young girls the ropes, say hi.

Also, biggest WTF game by far was the Joust pin. Every time I thought I knew how the scoring worked... NOPE! Every time I thought I figured out a strategy... NOPE! Every time I thought I'd line a shot or something... INCOMING BALL! But holy crap that game was fun!

    Anyway, here's a few pics:

My youngest at play. They're Dr. Who fanatics and needless to say, this game is on the want list. The Dalek topper is awesome! My youngest at play. They're Dr. Who fanatics and needless to say, this game is on the want list. The Dalek topper is awesome!

Oldest asked if Firepower is "the one you keep griping at in the Pinball Arcade app, and that's a prequel to our Space Shuttle?" Did me proud by picking it for one of her tourney plays. Yeah... I want that game too. Obviously my best moment of the show! I don't know how. I'm sure that's not even a "great" score (I set it around 5 on Friday.... by 10 Saturday it had been beaten by one person), but that's the first time I ever got to enter my initials on a pin, and I didn't even realize it was the GC score at first. I actually hadn't thought of that. The weather was really bad leading up to the expo so you are probably right.

Didn't mean to sound as negative as that came across. I did have a really good time and even though I said I wouldn't go back I most probably will. I would like to see more games and pins for sale. Parts too. Was hoping to come back with a full load.

    #344 9 years ago

That ACDC was a blast! Thanks Metallik! I think that's the only pin I waited through the long lines in the Cincy row, and it was well worth it. Actually now it has me wanting to get another, so maybe that was a bad idea

There was also very fun IM in another section with incredibly tight tilt settings. Ask me how I know Not that I blame the owner, and if he was a pinsider thanks for bringing it!

JP (and I) made it home safely. Thanks to all who played and commented. The t-rex mod seems to have survived and the overall toy was still working at the end.

It was great meeting those of you I happened to run into.

I guess I missed out on meeting some who where there. We need Pinside name-tags or something, or maybe I just need to be more social... For me it was generally Pinsiders coming up to me when I happened to be at JP opening it up or just generally standing near it and talking about it.

Did anyone notice the colored silicone Titan rings in my game? Any opinions on how you thought they played in JP?

    #347 9 years ago

By the way, I mentioned something that I thought everyone knew about and was very surprised that it was news to some collectors I was talking to. In most games that I've owned from early solid states to 90's DMDs, once a game is on ball 2, holding in start ends the game and starts a new one. This is handy when you end up at a game that someone abandoned in the middle of a 4 player game. I hated seeing people on JP reaching for the power switch and always stopped them since it has to go through t-rex diagnostics every time.

Thanks for the info and names. I agree, that area was definitely the "A-list" area and consistently had a large crowd. The games held up amazingly, considering I don't think any of them *ever* had a break. I'd love to know what goes into preparing and recovering a game from an event like that.

My wife and I were talking and while we'd love to share our own meager fortune and game at an event like that on one hand, wow: I'm not sure it (or us) is fully equipped or prepared for it on the other hand.

    So, major thanks again.

Oh, and to Travis, I did catch your SoF while it was running and it was fun even with the nerf. I liked the upper pf on that one, and the music seemed catchy. Never heard of that title before, so thanks for getting it going!

I think he may be referring to a couple minor errors here:

    Quoted from NPO:

The MM is owned by Brian Coney of the Cincy pinball group. CSI, SST, AFM, Joust, MetPrem were all from ButterflyGirl and her husband. The ACDC is owned by metallik here.

Starship Troopers wasn't Phoebe and Larry's game; it had another name (Doug or Dave someone) on it. Also, the Road Show in that line belongs to Jim, who is a Columbus guy.
