Stern, 2009Any idea why the red pop bumper plastics all seem to have parts of them shaved off so that they're not completely round? Was this a design decision? I thought it was just on my machine, but I see pics of a lot of other peoples' machines with the same thing. It just looks a little odd to me.
Did Stern ever make the plastics completely round? And if so, is there anyplace I can buy them?
Wow, no answers. I found this old thread because I was wondering the same thing. Just purchased LoTR machine and thought the plastics had been broken off. Anyone got answers or ideas?
I just took a look at my game, and I believe the plastics were trimmed to avoid ball traps. The left and bottom bumpers could have balls trapped against the back of the flasher domes and the adjacent objects (such as clear plastics or wireform) if the plastics were not cut, and the right pop bumper could have a ball stuck or wedged on top of the plastic at the right side if it was not trimmed.
I doubt I have had more than one or two instances where a ball got stuck on something in LOTR since I have owned it. I wish Stern was that careful with newer games.
