I just picked up a LOTR, I've never understood how to maximize Path of the Dead. Firstly I dont understand the screen and the lights, if they are blinking, vs solid (on the screen and on the physical lights).

Secondly, does nudging really even help that much?

I tried Googling for answers about this, but wasnt very lucky, so I figured I would ask.

I believe the flashing are 500 souls versus 100 or whatever souls for the non flashing so you want to nudge into the flashing, good luck!

Removed my comment cause Frax said I was a dummy.

Center is right, Ex is wrong.

Green lights indicate switches worth 500 instead of 100. You can greatly speed up qualifying multiball with the right POTD hits, so nudge that sucker.

The lights indicate how many souls you will get for triggering the corresponding switch:

off = 100
lit = 250
flashing = 500

You also get an extra 250 bonus souls if the ball falls into the shire after exiting the POTD. You definitely can nudge the ball a bit to go where you want it to, but it takes some practice.

I believe lane / switch numbers (1 to 4) can be seen (printed) on te path itself if you doubt what switch is what number.

Actually 250+50 up to 750.

Also, ROTK difficulty determines how many of the green lights are lit at a minimum. All the white targets in the game will add a step (off->lit, lit->blinking).

And yes, skillful nudging is definitely the key to maximizing souls.

If I ever get the chance to play LOTR again, somewhere other than TPF (can't deal with the horde of people crowding around one stinkin' machine because it's got 50 color changer leds in the backbox....whoop de doo...) I'll totally use the white targets thing...didn't know that.
