I finally picked up a LOTR. I am looking for some mods for it. Particularly, I am looking for the green soul figures that go on the top right part of the playfield. I have not been able to find them. If anyone knows where I can get them, can you please let me know.

#3 4 years ago

I offer this mod that you asked about, AOTD figures on my website if you're interested.

Thanks,

Steve's POTD mod is awesome. Also recommended are: Randy's ColorDMD, Herg's LED-OCD, and Jay's Palantir mod. Cliffy's protectors, too, as always.

#5 4 years ago

Don't forget an Arwen plastic protector!

#6 4 years ago

I have a set of figures. I can make you a custom path of the dead, modfather style .

#8 4 years ago

If you go the LED route, DEFINITELY get Hergs LEDOCD. BEST PINBALL MOD EVER!
LEDS ghost horribly in LOTR but LEDOCD fixes it all and makes it look outstanding! I've purchased 4 so far.

Balrog whip is cool: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/new-lotr-mods-lighted-balrog-whip-and-apron-prototype

If you order teh Shire decal from Pinball Life I would also advise getting the 'worn sword tip' decal. Also the centre ramp rubber post fix, the factory one takes a battering.

Last but not least do yourself a favour and get the shaker motor add on - it's amazing!

I checked the refinerys website and they don't sell the whip anymore if anyone knows where I can buy the whip please let me know.

Speaker Light Kit and Acrylic Design Set suitable for Lord of the Rings available at www.speakerlightkits.com

COLOR DMD is the best mod. Have almost everything people have mentioned...Gold Mirror blades also make her pop.

The light kit is very nice, and the price looks really good as well. If I didn't make my own, these would be on my list for sure.

#19 4 years ago

Need to see some pics of toppers. I'm not sure what I want to put on mine. Also, not sure what toppers are still available.

#20 4 years ago

I don't know how LOTR is with "non-ghosting" LEDs. But with my old-style LEDs, the ghosting was horrible.

So, I installed herg's LED OCD board ($139 shipped from http://www.ledocd.com) and it's worth every penny!

Don't be put off by the .Net software or OCD application to install.

Even if you did NONE of that, the LED OCD board *alone* is enough to make a huge difference and kill the ghosts!

That looks amazing! How can I get a set up just like that? Is there a plug and play system?

#23 4 years ago

Thanks QG!

They are pretty easy to build: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1flqpWpg-yn98aAIjPoJgZX-o_H5LMovO5QdyXzAD88U/edit

Code: https://github.com/elyons/professor_pinball_pinduino_sketches/blob/master/LOTR-Apron-Back/LOTR-Apron-Back.ino

Variety of other instructions: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/0B2njOnd06CCOdlBCVzdiWFZhUVE

Copperpot and I (Professor Pinball) sold out of the Pinduino, but Rock914 is picking it up, and getting more boards manufactured and kits put together.

PM him and get on the list. Once he gets up and running, I think he's going be making plug and play kits too.

Now that's a led-kit I would want! Would this go along e.g. with PinballBulbs' led-kit?

Thanks Nepi23. It should -- I just tapped into J6 and J7 to get info on what the flashers are doing. But feel free to post a link to kit you are using and I'll take a look

Ummmm, it looks cool and everything, but how are you suppose to see the ball to know where to nudge it???

#28 4 years ago

Ok someone help me out here. Want to put a shaker in my LOTR but heard you couldn't because of the code. Where do I get everything needed. Been out of the pin scene for a long time so feel like a complete noob again.

Right here buddy! I used this guide to put a red tremor in my LOTR. Works like a charm

I'm surprised Jays Palantir mod isn't getting more love.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/lotr-projected-eye-palantir-mod

The stock palantir is ridiculously pathetic in comparison to Jays.

Quoted from QuarterGrabber:

There is a rock graphics printed and mounted along the edge of the plastic to hide any wires. The middle portion is clear and the ball is visable throughout its journey underneath it's plastic. When i had my LOTR i never really nudged when the ball that went to the POTD, seemed like a waste of effort that really didn't do anything.

Upgraded speaker system is a good one the sound an call outs in the game are some of the best.

I make a Gandalf on shadowfax with lit staff if yours has Gandalf the grey, or I also sell just the stock staff.

Jays palantir mod is a must.

Great game

Hi all. I'm way late to the threads for LOTR but I was lucky enough to pick up a HUO LOTR. It came with the POTD figures and a few other additions. Quick question. I want to put the POTD figures on, but am not ready to light them. I really don't want to add the clear platform and was wondering if anyone mounted these successfully and how they did that. Any pics or help would be great. Thanks and Im sure ill have a lot more questions and end up spending way to much $ on this game.

can you describe or post pics of the Balrog whip mod? sounds interesting, but not familiar with it.

It is an 3-strand EL Wire whip that Balrog holds. It lights up along with Balrog. Similar to the whip used in the movie, it is supposed to look like it is on fire.

Here is a video of installed on my machine: [starts ~40s]

#49 3 years ago

How much is the whip?

#50 3 years ago

Sweet I am in for the Whip !!!

Uhh probably could have phrased that better.

I have been looking for something to light up and enhance the Balrog... it just sits there looking like plastic right now
