These decals are now available to purchase from Pinball Life.

I'm looking to possibly get these, but my LOTR came with mirror blades already installed. Has anyone else here removed mirror blades and if so, is there a mess to clean up before applying the decals? Looks like the blades are applied with adhesive, but since the previous owner mounted them, I can't be sure.

I'm assuming one would want a smooth surface to avoid the texture of any crud showing through the applied decals.

The ones I've worked with just screw with flat heads along the bottom and no adhesive.

Thanks... I suppose I should have looked a bit closer before asking that question. The upside is that I can now resell the mirror blades or easily use them on another pin if I do get these decals.

Some people ( me included ) , attach their mirror blades using the screws at the bottom as well as some thin double-sided tape along the top . It helps to hold the top edge against the cabinet . If yours seem stuck Pinzap then that may be why . Bit of gentle pulling / prying will get them off . Might be a bit of sticky residue left behind but should be easily removable with goo gone or similar .

Do you still have any of the MB left? I didn't find what they look like but judging from the other pictures should be awesome.

Very nice, did you have to pull the playfield to install or ? (I am assuming yes, but it was not clear from the pics above...).

Quoted from ibuypinballs:

This is why I order two set. Scored two HUO LOTR in four months. Hooked up a good friend with one.

I remember seeing a recent video where someone was trying to install a decal or something without pulling the playfield, and it was not going well... but if this was doable then bonus!

You don't need to completely remove the playfield. I balance it on the front which makes it super easy.

Got this installed in my Hobbit, here are some pics. It may not lineup as perfect as it does on LOTR but the colors and themes all lineup very nicely and add a lot to the machine.

I took a couple months away from pinball and came into this. Odd my Simpson ones are still fine.

Its odd as the majority have been fine but could be a number of reasons why they haven't bonded well in this case - prep of the sides with light sanding (just enough with fine sandpaper so as not to remove the paint) and then cleaning might be the way forward so the glue has something to bond too. It looks like they haven't made a good adhesion which could be due to the paint on the sides from factory preventing adhesion to the wood. Maybe Stern went extra thick on the paint on your machine

A bit of semi permanent glue should fix that well and I would try applying some carefully at the top edges first. Alternatively some double sided thin tape like they use for poster mounting might work well too.

I added some packing tape in tiny places to keep them in place and thanks for the help on a replacement set!

Daniel recently made these available again, & I was fortunate to get a pair from him. I realize the electroluminescent Power Bladez are popular right now, but IMHO, there is enough action, toys & light effects on the playfield & I didn’t want the distraction. Just one guy’s opinion. I like the way Daniel incorporated many of the more tranquil scenes from the movies into the slingshot area, such as the movie scene in which we see Gandalf, entering Hobbiton in his cart, not yet realizing he is a wizard with both a sense of humor and incomparable powers. The blade artwork proceeds down the playfield in a manner that includes the normal citizens of the dwarf, human, & elf communities, & leaves all the action on the playfield. The colors, hues & tones he uses flow well with the playfield, including the POTD.

Daniel was challenged a bit, trying to get my order from Great Britain to my *very* rural address in Texas, but he communicated regularly & persisted until we got an address the Royal Mail recognized. I’m extremely happy with the quality of the artwork &;the vinyl. Highly recommend!

Going forward, the LOTR decals are now available exclusively through Pinballlife.com who are the authorised stockists.

They should have sets available soon with plenty of stock.
