What causes the elf gifts to advance before they're activated?

When you hit the shire stand-up target the gift that is flashing advances to the next available one.

thanks i would have never guessed that

I know, I wish we got some wording on the playfield for that. It was the only thing that really made sense to do it, though. Wanted it to be possible, though difficult, to change the award, and also generally "on purpose."

Unfortunately, not on purpose, I hit that dang target so many times when in multiball and lose the extra ball gift opportunity

I have been recently practicing the times when it is "on purpose".

Hey pinball_keefer - this often comes up when playing and a friend asked me last night and I couldn't 100% remember the answer. Fellowship of the ring is almost lit - he needs to get pippin which is the left orbit. Also a gift from the elves is lit - 2x scoring.

If you shoot the left orbit - and get pippin then also starts fellowship by going in the saucer at the tower - do you also get 2x Scoring? I said no! you have to get 2x before you start, he said but there isnt a way to do it - I suggested shooting the ring as you can randomly get bounces from the ring into the tower shot. (this didnt happen) and he drained,

Was my strategy correct? Doesn't the starting of fellowship override the gift if it happens all at the same time?

Any insight on this rule and the order of thinking here.

Thanks
Ken

If the ball gets in the top hole, it's as if you made the shot no matter what.

Thanks Keefer - just experimented and whatever is lit as far as the gifts does get applied to your multiball if everything is started with one shot (the DMD just doesnt show the 2x, but it is pulsing on the playfield till you drain or it runs out - If everything is lit and ring multiball is the gift, Ring multiball overrides fellowship multiball and then you have to re-shoot the saucer for fellowship.

Now stacking super ring frenzy with fellowship - is there a way to shot the ring or cash this in once the Balrog comes out - or is that just a bad stack.

Thanks for making this game so great!

The Balrog will award the ring shot to cash in frenzy, makes it very difficult to build the award very high/light EB from frenzy, so yes, bad stack.

I was hoping for a great game, but after owning it for just a few weeks I am amazed!

Yeah, sadly stacking SRF (or even RF) with FOTR is a suck stack. It is possible to max it out with the balrog out, but obviously it is much harder. However, when you WANT to cash it in, at least it's much easier. Double-edged sword.
