I am refreshing my lord of the rings with a Ron Kruzman clear coated Playfield. Along the way I’ll refresh with new plastics, posts and anything else dirty or broken. Yellow titans. It’s going to be beautiful. The Playfield is mounted to the rotisserie and has a nice fresh coat of wax applied. Oh yeah and I have a new set of figurines, the old ones are pretty dirty.

Great start! Hope you have fun!

Some decent top side progress. The new plastics and figurines really freshen it up!

I used green rubber on mine but I like the look of the yellow. That clear looks so smooth even from just the few pics.

#6 5 years ago

I’m not sure about the yellow titans though, thoughts on color?

#7 5 years ago

I mean the yellow kinda works.....there are hits of yellow throughout the Playfield. Idk maybe I’ll stick with it

#8 5 years ago

You really can't go wrong with clear Titans, they go with any playfield and let more light thru....

Hmmmm clear was my next choice. I might go that route!

#10 5 years ago

Agreed. Can't go wrong with the clear.

Here's another pic showing the clear:

Long time since I did an update, but lot of progress in the last 2 weeks. Playfield fully populated, off the rotisserie and back into the cabinet. Checkout those Pinblades. Reattaching the wireharness, which should be done by this weekend.

Looking really nice. I'd swap out the clear lane guides for colored, maybe red (or green)?

Quoted from Daditude:

Will you be doing any mods?

Mods include: LED’s and a LEDOCD board, interactive led back glass board, NVRAM, ColorDMD, Pinsound and upgraded speakers, Pinblades, black w/ gold speckle powder coated armor, PDI glass.

Great Job! I’ll be adding a LOTR to my collection one day! Soon as I can find a decent one near me

LED OCD is pretty much mandatory if you want to upgrade to LEDs. Good choice.

I did a similar refresh a while back and included several mods. Detail in https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/lotr-refresh.

OP - I'm debating whether or not to get a TSPP and I'm curious how it compares to LOTR. Any insights?

TSPP is one of my favorite games. It sits right next to LOTR. It will be getting this same treatment next winter. I think to really enjoy it you need to be a simpsons fan. But the game is loaded, lots of shots, great call outs, super deep code. It’s never leaving.

Fired this bad boy up today. Ran through the switch tests and had to adjust a couple. Bulb test passed. Coils all seem to fire correctly. One question though, does anyone know in switch test mode if the flipper end switches should be detected. Neither one triggers in switch test mode and I highly doubt both are not working. So sorta wondering if they are not in the switch test?

My sound went out suddenly on my LOTR. The fuses are all good, however. Any ideas where to start or what to look for?

#27 4 years ago

Sure is purty

Did you not put warm leds in your LOTR or is it just the picture?

I originally had warm in it but didn't like them
