Quoted from UKCatsFan76:Please please scan this at high resolution
Here we go again...
Quoted from UKCatsFan76:I have a mint LOTR with no cabinet issues, there are many out there though who would love an option at restoring their games.
Yeah, the problem is that nobody wants to PAY for it. Everyone just keeps badgering this guy (who I assume is the same guy from the prior airbrushed LOTR cabinet thread) to make scans. He's still in a position where he can't legally distribute it even if he DOES scan it, because the final art on the side still says "LORD OF THE RINGS". If he scanned it prior to doing that part, I suppose it might be okay "legal wise", but I'm not claiming to be an expert on that. I have yet to see any compelling reason for this guy to oblige anyone with scans, when that art can subsequently just be given away for free to anyone and everyone to print. If he really wanted to try and monetize it, he needs to get with a printer and have them made, then sell those.
Quoted from jamespin:Why scan these over a mint cabinet anyway? Suppose resolution? I don't know...
Because apparently nobody with a mint cabinet wants to take the risk of distributing THAT copyrighted art either? =P
Unless Stern wants to start selling decal set for its older games, I'd say pin owners have the right to repair their damaged cabinets, whether by trying to fix it themselves or putting a sticker on.

Key word: "Themselves".
Quoted from jayhawkai:Lots of grey area in fair use law, but not necessarily a requirement that someone do it themselves.
Right, but doing that eliminates almost all of the issue, which is redistribution. You can scan, digitally clean up, and reprint just about anything you own without it ever being a real issue, but the second you make that work available to the public, you're probably gonna get a C&D. For the record.... I'm with you on the fact that I think it's asinine that materials like this cannot be freely distributed. The laws need to go to a "use it or lose it" model, not the "you have every right to profit off of everything that ever was, in perpetuity" model that we are currently shafted with....but at the same time, I'm willing to play the game that the politicians and corporations love to play. Find a way to skirt the issue and go from there. = P
You really have talent - no question. I'm probably the only person not in love with the art choices. I liked the close up of Golem with the travelers in the background but then you erased them. The combo would have been killer.
Again, your talent is evident but I would be bummed if Stern released a pin with that side artwork. Different strokes. Keep up the artistic interpretations though - very cool to see different.
