Many of you will be familiar with my JP Feature Light Sign mod. I’ve been working on a similar mod for TAF over the last couple of years and I'm pleased to finally make it ready for sale!

If you’re not familiar with the idea behind my mods, let me explain:
Many games have existing feature light lamps (often referred to as condom lamps!) that merely have a coloured sleeve and no accompanying signage to tell players what the lights mean. Players often need to examine the rule sheet to understand what they mean. Not to mention they’re incredibly unexciting to look at!

So I’ve designed a set of signs, with artwork that ties perfectly into the existing TAF playfield art, that uses these existing lamps as backlights. They have simple low-profile wire brackets that install sturdily on existing playfield posts. Completely reversible and only take a minute to install.

I think you’ll agree that they look amazing and really liven up the look of the game. My personal TAF doesn’t feature any other mods or LEDs so they’ll look even better on your games that do.

Head on over to http://www.loopcombo.com to see it in more detail and check out the other mods that go with it. I’m based in New Zealand and ship free worldwide.

I really like the concept behind this. There are several games I've played where it takes several plays before I start understanding the ruleset and what certain lights indicate. Signage like this can make a game much more friendly for first time players.

However, I think it would be a good idea to revisit the font choices on the sign so that they end up being a closer match what's on the other original signage in the game. To my eye, the current signs don't quite seamlessly integrate into the look of the game.

Hey thanks for your comments! I needed a condensed font for space reasons and the only place a condensed font appears on the playfield is in the outlane credits and on the apron. So I matched that which is used on the apron. EDIT: Also the font is a very close match for The Power insert.

The game tends to mostly use variants of Futura and Helvetica. One visual quality of all of the text used on the playfield and plastics that I really like is the slightly ballooned/rounded/bled effect that comes from the screen printing process that was used, so I found a condensed gothic font that already had this feel to it. I think it matches well, and perhaps it needs to be seen in better context than I've supplied (I need to get some better photos with a good camera, I've just got my phone on hand right now) to reflect that.

I fitted one of Joshs kits over the weekend.

Installation was very straight forward - even if you’re mechanically challenged.

The mounting wires can be bent around with pliers if you want to position them differently, but the standard setup seems spot on.

The kit came complete with colour matched Flexi LEDs which throw around a heap of colour.

Overall, good bang for your buck.

They look great RD! Good to see them fitted to a game with LEDs. My own TAF has been neglected while I worked on the mod so it doesn't even have LEDs aside from the flex ones behind these backlight signs.

I might use a couple of your pics on my website if that's cool with you

Sure buddy, I’ll email you a few more pix too. Use them all you want.

You mentioned LED kits before in that other thread, I would recommend you buy a stash of white Comet LEDs in the 100 packs and use those. Figures does all his controlled lamps with white 2led bulbs and they look great. I use the 2led whites as well, but match them with 2smd for the coloured inserts (the 2smd are brighter and cut through the insert better). You can buy the 2smd in 25 packs to save dough. Get some red, green, blue and use white elsewhere.

It may be slightly more outlay up front to get a LED stash, but it’ll work out far cheaper in the long run. And you can make the machine look how YOU want it to look.
