Or even advice on fixing burned traces on the unit.

First, make sure all fuses are the correct current rating.

Bridge each fried trace with 18 or 20 AWG wire. Solder each end to the solid traces.

Verify that the wires in the flexible conduit are intact and not shorted to one another. Remove the finger assembly or insulate all fingers from the rivets using paper to insulate and check with an ohm meter.
