I just picked up a Flash machine yesterday. The biggest problem is playfield wear. All of the inserts are concave and sunken below the playfield surface. Many are loose. The wood is worn away around several of the inserts as well.

I have read Vid's playfield restoration thread many times but I am hoping to get some specific advise on this playfield. Do I proceed as Vid suggest with mylar removal first? Do I clean the playfield with a magic eraser? Do I install new inserts before repairing the worn wood around them? Is this playfield to fare gone to try to repair?

Maybe I just need a good push to jump in.

This will be the first time that I am attempting anything more than some minor touchups. My only saving grace is that I can airbrush and spray clear.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Vid,

Thanks for responding!
I just want to make sure that these will be my steps going forward...
1. Strip playfield of all components
2. Remove mylar using canned air, flour and alcohol
3. Clean with magic eraser and 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol (no water)
4. Re-glue any loose inserts and level any inserts that need it
5. Lay down some clear
6. Paint touch-ups
7. Final clear
8. Re-assembly the playfield

My only question is when do I fill the divots in the playfield around some of the sunken inserts? As an example, above the "5" insert. The paint wear is actually worn into the playfield not just paint.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks again for the help!

Aurich,
I have read the tread at least 3 time but it is much better with just Vid's instructions.
Thanks!

Aurich,

Any easy way to print the whole thing with the pictures?

Quoted from vid1900:

First you level the insert, then you fill it and any missing wood with 2PAC.

Thanks again!

Vid,
Do I remove these mounting pins, for flippers and bumpers before clearing?

How do ensure that the mounting pins site down to the playfield surface once cleared? Will they tear up the clear when torqued down?

Quoted from Blackbeard:

Add blue super brites to the GI.
Takes 30 of them. Looks stunning when done.

Can you by any chance supply a link for the bulb?

scroll down: 44/47 blue supers. I believe my flash took like 30 of them in the GI. Really made the pin looks awesome.. and a cheap way to lower the GI circuit heat.

Thanks for the tip! I was planning to switch to all LED's if possible.
