Space Shuttle
Williams, 1984so as fate would have it, it seems I'm the last person on the planet that doesn't have a 3D printer. Looking for someone that wants to take on the project of Printing the space shuttle scaffolding that appears over the pop bumpers in 3D. I already have an astronaut that works to scale , just need the scaffolding. Any takers? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

You know, you might try Upwork or one of those similar sites (Fiver, etc) you post the plastic and how much you’re willing to pay - you really need a 3D model (.obj or .stl file) to be created. That can then be printed. My band has gotten numerous things done for not very much $$ - $100 for custom (2D) artwork for example. You’re looking for a model of an existing piece of art, which may be even easier.
Once you have that file, I’m sure someone here would help you print it - or talk to one of the modders and work out a deal for a cut of every one they print perhaps.

thanks for the input, I'm new to 3D printing, is there free software available for download so that I can produce my own .obj or.stl files, and is one format preferred over the other or more common as far as the printers go?
Reach out to Swinks , that guy does all things 3D and is very reasonable. He made a part that didn't exist for my Banzai Run

It would be really tedious, but as a beginner, pretty much all those shapes in that scaffolding are basic so you should be able to make it in tinkercad yourself. You wouldn't have to learn anything complicated like blender to get the job done on at least a basic level that would probably be good enough for you. Check out tinkercad.com and play around. It's free.

There’s TONS. Tinkercad runs in your browser and is pretty simple to start with. It’s a good practice app and I’ve imported stuff I got from thingiverse.com (which has free completed designs) and made new things in a real short turnaround By combining them in Tinkercad.
There’s lots of other software too - Fusion360, Zbrush, etc but Tinkercad is easy to learn on
Just searching really fast: you could import 3 of these and some spheres and you’d be really far along - it won’t be exact but you’d be real close to start
Thanks for all the feedback and insight, I hate learning new software but when it's pinball related I don't mind taking one for the team. Being that it is all pretty asymmetrical what I want to do perhaps tinkercad would be my best bet for starts.

Haha, you're more right than you know. The grid pattern on the scaffolding is definitely NOT actually symmetrical. It's clearly hand-drawn because the segments aren't equal. But you can fix that up in tinkercad so it's right and it will still look good.
Tinkercad is a VERY EASY entry point into making 3D projects to get your feet wet. For what you'd pay to have someone else make this for you, you could learn enough in Tinkercad to get it done and use the money you saved to get an ender 3 and print it.

yes that is doable and fairly simple, ideally if I borrowed the plastic or did a real nice scan with a ruler in the scan so I could scale it and you told me the max height to work to I could do it.
below is a design I did for PinballmikeD for the ACDC lcd mod of his, but have heaps on shapeways as well as the snackbar mod - 3d adds a cool effect.

Gave tinkercad a try, not really in my wheelhouse. Should be a simple process for someone who knows what they're doing though.

It looks like the scaffolding connecting the circles is the same on all sides, not solid.

That was my take on it as well, needs a few tweaks but overall great design.

So my question of the day is,there a clear or translucent medium the model can be rendered with? My pops are currently lit with a comet cluster, where all the lighting effect is in the center of the pop and some of that may get lost like it does when the Plastics are installed. I could simply switch to a ring style of light but I got to thinking, if this was rendered in a transparent material I could dye or reverse paint the cones so that I would still get a lighting effect coming up through the base of the model.

There is translucent PLA which does a pretty good job distributing light (although it’s hard to tell with the model in question here), and there’s also transparent PETG. So you have options.

Thanks, good to know I thought there must be. Wondering if one material is going to be more rigid or fragile than the next. Also, huzzah! I now have the .stl file and I'm currently shopping around for someone willing to print. Local libraries are all still closed due to the covid-19 , so reaching out here.
Would you be willing to share the file? I may be able to get this printed. I have a couple buddies with printers.
