    They are stronger than you might think.

    Even a 3/8" eye-bolt is rated for 1,200 lbs (and that's with a 5 to 1 safety ratio).

    The weak link is the wire rope, at 1/8" 7x7 it has a rating of 350 lbs, your dad's design uses it doubled up so, it realistically can hold 700 lbs each handle.

    Just enough to lift up a Gotlieb Genie.....maybe........
