JEEBUS !!!

#13 2 years ago

I suggest that you take that double eagle to a coin shop and have it appraised.
It might be worth having it slabbed and graded professionally to keep it in good condition and out of that mount.
You might also want to keep it safe so that it doesn't get stolen or damaged by whatever methods that you have available to you.

#14 2 years ago

You lucky dog.

They can tell you if it's real or not. Could be just made up for jewelry. It doesn't look quite right. If real I hope the ring around the edge didn't damage it.

It Started with asking for Demo-Man Plastics on the Trade Plastics Thread. Old Guy with an Unclimate controlled Blillards warehouse messaged me and says he has the whole machine for sale. As Is. ruined pool tables everywhere. Smell of stale cigarettes and urine mixed with dog shit. Well, the Plastics were no good but the price was right. Empty bags of weed all in the Cabinet… keeping that location private at this time. A couple of gems under all that garbage….

Nope. I did get one recently posted locally. Was looking for plastics for it. As they’re no longer available anywhere in a set new.

#19 2 years ago

You have the Devil's luck.

#20 2 years ago

That's awesome.Hope it's real.

#21 2 years ago

Me too. If it is the chain likely has value too.

#23 2 years ago

I know a guy that works at a grading company. Too bad you aren't close. Very cool.

#24 2 years ago

So inquiring minds (ok me) want to know if the coin/chain has been authenticated.

#25 2 years ago

Also, let’s see those Polaroid selfies…

#26 2 years ago

I could eat these words and if necessary will own up to it. Lighting and digital photography can make things look different.
That coin was fake.
American Gold is not 24Kt so has a copper/Bronze tint to it that once you see the real thing becomes unmistakable.
The chain looked like cheese too. Nobody would mount a St. Gaudens on that chain.
Like I say,been wrong before.
LTG was the first to notice that something doesn't look right.
So OP, please prove me wrong.

#27 2 years ago

I will post a better picture of it this afternoon. I have not check it out by a professional.

The Polaroids should not ever see the light of day. Lol. Again…

Sounds like you found a perfect gift for a lady friend or companion.
I would be honest about it being fake though.

I found a 1997 Washington quarter in a coin door I recently unassembled!

#33 2 years ago

Seems awfully untarnished to be legit.

My best find is $2.50 in dimes in a Gtb coin return chute. No silver.

I had about 30 or 40 bucks worth of coins in a game(s) once. I believe it was the DE Time Machine and Rollergames that we picked up from the same guy. Both were acid damaged on the MPUs, and he didn't have ANY of the keys and we drilled the locks in his garage with his tools.

Post partial pics of the Polaroids at least!! Put a black like three the eyes or any offending areas lol.

#38 2 years ago

Ok, I’ll post pics the Polaroids. So I hear the Gold Italian.

#39 2 years ago

Cant wait lol.

Nice find! All I've ever got was anout 40 in quarters.

#40 2 years ago

Nice Gaudins. The coin alone is probably close to $2K, and the chain would be weight of gold.

I use coinflation.com for value of coins like this. Gives you the value of the metal, not the value of the coin though. But, a good idea of value here.

Really nice.

LOL, just now seeing this thread.
Thats awesome because that necklace is probably worth more than the machine it was in.

Coin looks perfectly fine to me.

Yes, its in a gaudy as hell mount, but people did that back in the day when gold was cheap (think 1980s Mr. T).
This is pretty typical of the 1960s and 1970s.

Value on the coin depends what it looks like out of the bezel and if the bezel actually left mount marks (prong marks) on the coin.

Current spot price on gold is around $1785 per ounce and melt value alone on the coin is around $1722.

Jewelry grade bid on messed up $20s is around $1770 (for worst possible condition), sell price is $1870 (about $100 spread buy and sell).
XF bid is around $1795 with a sell of $1895
Generic UNC (raw uncertified) is $1830 bid with ask of $1930.

The question really is if the coin will have evidence of mounting or being in jewelry if you remove it from the bezel.
Could be worth over 2k, but I would bet its more of the generic price around $1800-$1900 range.

Now, depending on what the weight of the bezel and the chain you have quite a chunk of change just in that.
Its marked 750, which is 18 Karat gold (75% gold) and that's a pretty big chain and mount.
So whatever the bezel and chain weigh, throw it on a scale and divide that by 31.1gms (troy once) and multiply it by 0.75 and that will give you the aggregate gold weight of the chain and bezel.

#42 2 years ago

By the way, my advice would be to remove it from the bezel.
Thats what I would do if this came into my shop.
Its prong mounted on the back, so you can bend up the four prongs with a pair of needle nose pliers very carefully and remove the coin without damaging it.
Be carful not to scratch of ding the coin with the pliers and make sure you bend the prongs enough so the the coin pops out without putting a scratch on the edge, rim or surface when removing it.
Unless you plan on keeping this as a piece of jewelry (which rarely happens these day).

The coin looks pretty good and if it doesn't show evidence of mounting, it looks like a decent UNC.
The mount and chain hurt the value of the coin if you were to go sell this.
Most shops would buy it as piece of jewelry (not a coin).
You would do better selling the coin as a coin and scrapping the chain and mount.
99.9% of the places you would go to sell this are going to ship the chain and mount off to a refinery, so why not separate out the two and max out the value on the coin.

#43 2 years ago

Also if you want to quick figure how much gold you have, just weight the entire necklace as is in grams.
Then subtract 33.4gms to account for the weight of the coin and that will give you the weight of the chain and bezel.
Take the gram weight and divide the gram weight by 31.1 and multiply it by 0.75 to get how much pure gold you have and take that number and multiply it by $1785 and it should roughly give you todays melt value on the chain and bezel.

Man.
Someone shed some tears back in the day forgetting where they put that thing.
There's a good movie in there somewhere.

#45 2 years ago

I'm just here for those Polaroids...

Someone is going to Prison if the Polaroids are revealed. Lol.

Hmmmm, I thought I wanted to see them but now I'm not so sure...

#48 2 years ago

Maybe the owner was in prison already and someone else sold the machine not knowing the treasures within.

#49 2 years ago

I just want to see if the coin is marred or not.

#50 2 years ago

I found some brass knuckles in a game. I've found a lot of change and a lot of unmentionables. I did have an operator recheck a machine to see if he left a sawed off 12 gauge in there.
