I was stripping down a R911 playfield, but a handful of threaded posts in t-nuts appear to have been secured--I'm assuming by loctite.

Wiggling the post clockwise and counterclockwise only succeeded in loosening the t-nut from the playfield. In once case, the t-nut spins freely. I can't seem to grip the t-nut that is spinning freely.

What else could I try that might unscrew these posts?

Mine usually resulted in snapping bolts.. Which is why I know carry those posts and t nuts in stock... But possibly a quick zap of heat to loosen the loctite

Yes, heat the post from under the playfield with a solderiing iron with a big tip til the post gets hot, most of the time it will then come out without breaking. MOST of the time.

I have had great success using my soldering gun to heat up the t-nut and having the threaded Union coming apart easily. I did this while restoring a Jokerz. It worked every single time.

Ok, I've been practicing on a blown out R911 playfield, but have been largely unsuccessful.

I heat the post for 30-60 seconds with a soldering iron cranked up to 900'F.

With the short posts that go through plastic posts, I've been successful 2 out of 5 times--for failures, the screw still twists and breaks or the t-nut loosens from the playfield and just spins.

With the taller thicker posts, I have not been successful at all. The t-nut just ends up loosening and just spins.

Any suggestions to either unscrew the posts without failing, or what to do when the t-nut just spins?

Ok, it looks like I found a way to remove the t-nut. If the t-nut was raised slightly above the rear side of the playfield, then I held it with vice grips and unscrewed it posted from the top if the playfield.

If the t-nut was still flush with the rear of the playfield, I cut off the post's threads with a dremmel tool so it was flush with the t-nut, then drilled out the post from the bottom of the t-nut.

I just order a bunch from PBR along with the other parts I need when I tear down a GTL. Snap off and replace when I re-populate the playfield. A couple of bucks vs. the aggravation and time is an easy trade for me.

use a small torch to heat

Throw a small hexhead screw into the bottom of the playfield snug against the T-nut, that will keep it from spinning and falling out of the bottom. A lot of manufacturers actually did this with tnuts.

I was trying to *remove* the post from the playfield---not secure it.

And that would be easy to do with the thin posts like this:

However, I was trying to remove the larger, thicker posts like this:

These posts can't really be "snapped off".

Right.... those t-nuts tend to spin on the gottliebs, I always throw a screw into the bottom of them all, heat the bottom with an iron and then remove the post. Once the t-nuts start spinning, it becomes a real chore trying to remove those posts, even if heated.

I had a bunch of stuck ones on my Stargate I just over tightened them until they broke off.

Never had a problem snapping any of them off - thin or thick. But, as mentioned, you don't want the t-nuts spinning.
