    Hello,

I’m putting the final touches to my IJ restoration. Before adding 3M tape to the rails, I test fitted them in place using the existing holes. Problem is, the lockdown bar does not fit!

Looks like the lockdown bar is hitting the right side rail. Looks like there is plenty room on the left side rail. The rails are where they are supposed to be. Using a brand new lockdown receiver as well. What could be causing this? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Can you loosen the receiver and move it over a little ?

Yeah, let me play with the receiver and see if it improves. I’ll be right back....Thanks!

    #4 5 years ago

So a big improvement as now the lockdown receiver does go down BUT when I tighten the nuts the handle bar on the bottom of the receiver gets out if alignment and fails to lock bar in place. Is there an adjustment to this handle bar? Thanks!

    #5 5 years ago

This is my problem. The locking bar hits the lockdown bar’s hooks. Is there a way to adjust this? This locking bar needs to go up some. The 2 screws on top are not restricting the bar of movement.

Compare the old to the new, maybe the mounting holes are not the same.

Try loosening the brass screws on the receiver, it looks like those are pushing down too far

Maybe your receiver needs to be re-mounted higher up? This is pretty weird I have never had this issue after doing 10 games . Where did you get the receiver from ?

    Pinball life.

It is as high as it can possibly go. I wish there was some sort of adjustment I could do to the lock bar mech.

You may or may not know this..... BE CAREFUL pressing down on that lock bar. A firm palm plant on that lock bar can “dent” it and it really shows up on polished lock bars. You’ll know if it’s dented by looking at the bar from an angle.

    Thanks for the warning

    Any other ideas?

    #15 5 years ago

are the [hooks] the same length on the underside of both the old and new lockdown bars?

based on the your 2nd to last photo, it appears that the hooks should be sitting just a bit lower (or receiver bar raised up a bit so that it catches the top side of the [hook tab] to engage and pull the lockdown bar downward as you slide the receiver

    #16 5 years ago

Compare it to another WPC lock down bar. The hooks must be slightly different on this one

    #17 5 years ago

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm at work right now but I'll take pics of the hooks and receiver later today. The problem is that right now, this is the only WPC machine I have. I have a Metallica but that's it. I sold my original lockdown bar when I bought this brass plated one. So I got nothing to compare to. I'll post pics later today. Thanks!

    #18 5 years ago

I remember trying it (without the rails) a while back before I installed the decals on the cabinet and it worked just fine. The rails are not glued to the cabinet yet. They are only secured by the screws and bolts. Could it be that my rails are creating this issue? I just don't see how, since they are where they are 'supposed' to be.

    #19 5 years ago

I still think the problem is the receiver somehow - those lockbars are pretty standard, but I guess you could have gotten a bum one somehow. Eh, but I’ve bought 5 or 6 of those and every single one fit.

Is is possible you bought the wrong one? Like for a system 11 or something?

Post more pics of the cab and receiver, further away from where you initially took them

    #20 5 years ago

I’ve bought several receivers from PL and they all work fine. I highly doubt it’s the side rails causing the issue

    I will do just that....Thanks!

    #22 5 years ago

What I'll do is remove the rails and see if the lockdown bar fits.....

    #23 5 years ago

Remove the lockdown bar receiver. ( set the two adjustment screws about where they started ) put the lockdown bar in it. Set it in the game. Remount it, new screw holes. Done.

Not a bad idea at all! Thank you very much for that

Good luck with the lockdown bar!

Any chance we get to see a few photos of the final restoration? Your opening post was a tease! Love looking at beautiful Indys!

Thanks! Yeah I'm going to start my own IJ restoration thread to show the whole process from start to finish really soon! Well, as soon as I get the rails and lockdown bar installed! Once (hopefully) I take care of this, I'll hook all the connectors and fire it up! Here's a few pics of the playfield and some mods I created, including upgraded planes with spinning props (still need to install the biplane) Idol with stone pedestal, painted and added greenery and branches to the ugly red mini playfield rails, a lots more....

The receiver bracket is too low in the cabinet. Follow Loyd's advice and you will be good.

    Quoted from j_m_:

Correct. Then use adjustment screws as the last step for final tweaking. Just went through this with a TONTAN.

    #29 5 years ago

Ok first of all, Is this the correct WPC lockdown bar?

Is it normal for the rails to stick out like this? One sticks out more than the other one

That is the wrong receiver for IJ
The holes that it mounts in are smaller on that versionband will not allow you to move it higher up.

    #36 5 years ago

I really think the new receiver is crap. With the old receiver, the bolt holes align perfectly. With the new one, they just don’t! I did as Lloyd sugested and the lockdown bar barely clears the rails with both reveivers but the new one does not line up with the bolt holes at all. The old one does....any suggestions other than installing the old receiver?

Thanks for confirming that Chris! I have no idea how this happened! I bought it at Pinball Life and it was supposedly for WPC machines....So Besides the holes being smaller, is there another difference from the incorrect receiver to a newer style correct one? I had already put my “Restored by” stickers on it and everything

    Not a whole lot.
If you are using a newer door the arm there in the new one will clear it better
What you could do it just notch out the lockbar a bit more
    It is easy to do.
Shave the opening a bit larger as shown with the tape.
If it proves a little too loose then you can use those brass screws in the receiver to tighten it up.

I’ll do just that. Great tip btw! So I just installed the old one and it goes right in. This will allow me to continue my restoration. Question before I 3M tape the rails....Is it OK for the rails to stick out a bit?

If you are using the original holes it is ok

That is common on the factory install.
I prefer them to be about flush but if you are talking about a 1/16th or a touch more it is fine.

    Hi George,

Your IJ restoration is looking really nice. Just an FYI, if you are unable to perform the receiver modification that Chris mentioned you can always buy a new receiver from Mantis Amusements. I purchased new ones from Mantis for most of my games and they look and fit perfectly, although I don't have an IJ.

    Good luck.
