I find this very interesting and applaud you for doing this. A lot of thought and effort went into this project. How will you be selling these boards? I didn't see anything listed on your webpage.

I sell a 'LISY1/LISY80 Base Set' at cost price for 30 Euro shipping in Germany included ( for international shipping add 5€ ).
The 'Base Set' consists of the 'bare' pcb plus 3 programed PICs.

For 25€ more I can add the components from the BOM (EXCEPT the Raspberry PI!), LISY Image on SD card and sockets for all ICs included.

Do we still need to solder that one surface mount component?

Yes, I couldn't find a 'dip' variant for the I2C bus repeater ( PCA9515) so far.
I tried to do it with two MOSFETs, but it was not reliable. So I'm open for suggestions!

But: soldering of 8 SMD pads is manageable, even for my age

Probably! I've just never done SMD before.

For those not following the homebrew thread, there has been some development: First, bontango translated the LISY manual to english. That should be helpful for any non-german speaker. Furthermore, LISY now supports text-to-speech and custom mp3s. And, finally, the MPF documentation got updated with all the possible configuration options.
