Everytime I hear about a Carpenter reboot I start dry heaving.

    Concerning OUTLAND, 1981.

The original dvd looks horrible! It looks like they simply transferred the vhs reference cable tv copy, and used that.
    Its god awful, avoid it.

The new blue ray is spectacular.

And yes, the Outland story takes place in the ALIEN universe, in my imagination at least.
The tech and lived in universe is pure Ridly Scott ALIEN.
And Blade Runner for that matter.

Why are movies like mad max, children of men, clockwork orange etc etc concidered science fiction?

I'd also like to say there are movies with imo a great idea, but suffering from poor execution such as stargate, prometheus and event horizon.

    Quoted from rai:

You got any from the 2000’s and newer?

Enjoyed Intersteller and Edge of Tomorrow. Oblivion was interesting. The Martian was really good! Prometheus. Gravity was pretty good. I did enjoy the new Planet of the Apes films. The new King Kong was decent. Will see Godzilla vs Kong in the next couple days.....

There is a subclass of sci-fi that’s called post apocalyptic and another called dystopian.

Other examples: 1984, waterworld, Hunger Games, Battle Royal, On the beach etc.

Of course Mad Max is not future from now but was future when it was released.

    Quoted from TheLaw:

Best news ever was them finally canceling that Escape form New York reboot. Not every movie needs to be remade.

I agree! no reason to remake a great film that still holds up today.
I never heard they were talking about doing a remake.
Was John Carpenter supposed to be involved?
One of my favorite films and has potential for an amazing pin but unfortunately will never happen.

Carpenter was was not involved. It was going to Star Gerard Butler, which irked Russell because Snake is such a classic 'Merican character.
Garard Butler, talk aboot a fall from grace!
