    Hi guys n gals,

Not sure whether this is the right sub forum for this so I apologise.

Just curious as to how lighted scoring is achieved in both pinball and other machines.
Have a very nice book that explains reel scoring and touches on lighted and how eg.20 & 10 lights for 30 etc
but how is it achieved mechanically/electrically.

    Not many many relays surely?

Probably really simple and just like 3 relays but can't find any info online!

    Enlighten me o wise ones.
    Pictures appreciated

    Cheers

Just as a bit more detail, there's a 10K stepper unit (on Gottlieb game picture aboved, that's the one on the lower right) that handles the 10,000 point values. The 100K stepper unit handles both the 100,000 and Million point values. The scores max out usually in the 5 to 7 Million range (plus some odd amount of 100K).

The 10K unit is a continuous stepper, and just keeps cycling from 0 to 9, but has three sets of these on the wiper disc (so there are three 'zero' positions).

The 100K steps up to a max value, and then has a reset coil that releases the spring-wound wiper arm to have it zip around back to home.

The other small stepper shown in the upper right is the 0-9 Unit, and is used as the random Match value.

And just like a score reel for the 10K scoring the next score carries over to the 100K scoring when it is at the 90K position.
