It all just gets more complicated as time goes on and more people want to get their hands on any $$$ being missed out on.
The whole retaining music ownership for 50-75 years and beyond is really just mind boggling. How about a use tax to the builder anytime someone enters a building? Or you wear a pair of shoes? Or you play a game of pinball? A tax should go to the builder then? Why not? I sure wouldn't mind continuing to get paid 50 years after i completed a job...
