Quoted from jar155:Not sure what that is, exactly, but did you clean off any wax before putting the protector on? Even a fresh coat of wax will flake off under the protector. It would be best to just have the playfield very clean, no wax.
Interesting but I didn't wax Ghostbusters and same thing is happening. I'm going to pull up the Wh20 and take a look under. I'm thinking they may be air bubbles.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:Why are people installing these things on their pinball machines with clearcoated playfields in brand new or nice condition?
Stop it. This is the equivilent of putting plastic wrap on the furniture. These games don't play right with this lexan protector rattling around and nobody knows if they will actually end up causing damage. You are ruining your games...unless of course you don't really care how they play which is probably the case for many folks here.
My pins gets played 8 hours a day non stop in my freeplay arcade. I've seen damage with new playfields even with regular cleaning and waxing. No one gives a shit if they roll different, most don't even understand one rule. I can barley tell the difference. Maybe this operator who probably never cleaned or changed out the ball listened to your advise.
Quoted from zacaj:What kind of damage? That pic was resolved to be a manufacturing defect and Stern replaced it, iirc
Chip on my TSPP pf. No isses once protector installed. My only problems with the protectors as mentioned above are stuck balls at ramps. I requested that they make them longer at the ramps so they can be tucked under the ramp flaps. The GB was longer at the ramp and scoops so no stuck balls. It also secures the protector from moving.
I got my TSPP a year and a half ago with 50 plays on it. I installed a playfield protector before bringing it in to my freeplay arcade. It did its job and looks amazing after cutting it out. Only issue was how dirty it got even after cleaning once a week. Seems like the dirt gets etched in and won't come off with novus or even a Mr. Clean. There was dirt underneath close to the edges and didn't damage the playfield. Taking this game home to shop out and put in another protector. Sorry forgot to take a pic of the dirty protector.
Quoted from MustangPaul:How often did you change your balls? It would take me 30 years to put 33,000 plays on one of my games.
Every few months, but does it really matter with a protector? TSPP is pretty much played non stop 8 hours a day. Going to put in another protector soon.
