    I read in the major thread relative to EM pinballs, that some collectors are using the so called Cliffy/Clay method to level inserts with Varathane.

    I am in the process of restoring a Bally Mata Hari (Solid State) which suffers from slightly recessed inserts, like most of them. I'd like to know more about that technique since I am not planning to clear coat that otherwise beautiful playfield.

    Any pointers, links, summary of that technique would be most welcome.

    Thank you Sean. Your response is very precise and makes perfect sense.
    Yes, sanding flat an insert is a sure recipe for ruining the surrounding artworks.
