Is it worth it to change out the factory speakers? I am thinking about this set for my LotR. Is it worth the price? is it worth it to get the premium upgrade? 200 bucks! As far as mods go... do you get bang for your buck??? Are there better options? What other options are out there?

Worth it? Depends on your expectations. You’re not magically going to get the board to produce high bitrate lossless audio.

    Here is another option: https://flipperfidelity.com/meaty-beaty-big-and-bassy-10-3-way-speaker-system-for-sam-and-whitestar-machines/

Pinwoofer all the way. Nothing will make the stock audio feed better, but this is the best aftermarket speaker option out there imo. Gives the game the added amplifiers it needs to properly use the upgraded speakers.

It doesn’t look like pinwoofer supports white star systems

I would message him on pinside to be sure.

While you can certainly buy better speakers that will fit in pins
my solution for great sound is tap off the audio and feed it into
the big stereo system I have in one room. Big speakers and a
    subwoofer are hard to beat.

Hey guys - swapping out the speakers will help a bit but there is no substitute for adding power. Not that the goal is to play it loud (which you can definately do with our system), but rather to liberate yourself from the de-rated stock amplifier and gain enough dynamic range to adequately power both the cabinet and backbox. Power is vital for good audio at any volume level.

We supported Stern Whitestar with Version 2 (which we no longer produce), but I have not added it to the GT portfolio. I know what needs to be done in terms of the interface electronics but I need to schedule the time to spin the PCB's and beta test. I'll get to it in the next 60-90 days. It will be well worth the wait.

    Thank you!

Are the LoTR LEs supported by pinwoofer? Or is there the same limitation as the LoTRs that were produced years earlier?

My understanding is that the LoTR LE is still Whitestar (Modified from Sega) and the changes are largely cosmetic aside from the optional shaker motor. So same answer, unfortunately. You are blessed to have that title since it had some beautiful upgrades and was a limited run.

What upgrades did LotR Le have other than the gold armor and shaker?

It sounds like pinwoofer makes a good product. What size speakers are stock in the modern stern spike 2 pins?

I really like Pyle speakers. I would put those in my car.

It makes sense about adding powr to achieve quality. I need to see the install video.

I’ve just done my own speaker mod on Avatar and the results are pretty damn good, just waiting on an Lpad to lower the bass speaker in the cab as it’s overkill.
Sounds better than my TWD LE with Flipper Fidelity.
I’m just about to do the same thing in my lotr LE so will report back. Having a subwoofer filter makes a big difference even on cheap speakers!
Cost me half the price of pinball speakers. Spacers are for the 4” JBL’s, you also need an 8” spacer for the sub.

I have done my own mods using parts from partsexpress.com. I followed tips from http://dziedzic.us/wpc_speaker_replacement.html

Subwoofer is so big in Rick and Morty, it has shifted the San Andreas fault to right under my garage.

All manufacturers should strive to use speakers that you don't even have to think about replacing. Perhaps playfields as well.

I also made my own sub for Houdini, It is not powered but works just fine for me. Since I had the wood for the cabinet the total cost was around $30

I added a Pinwoofer to my Metallica and man it’s a very good product I have a AC/DC with flipper fidelity and it sounds good but not as good as the Pinwoofer. It’s very clear and the bass out of that 8 inch sub is crazy. I had a few questions so I called Dan at pinwoofer and he walk me through the process. I will be ordering one of these kits for my AC/DC soon.
