Quoted from swampfire:

I think the reason I dismissed Metal in the 80's was that there were so many BAD metal bands:
http://deathscream.net/the-top-50-worst-heavy-metal-bands-of-all-time/

Ah man, there are some real classics in there! Heh.

It's metal 24-7 for me, and has been since about 7th grade. It must be a sign that you're getting older when the "hard stuff" from your youth is classic radio foder (and foder for pinball games). Still plenty of good new metal luckily. Revocation, Holy Grail, Kvelertak, Warbringer... \m/

Holy Grail are awesome!! Got to see them here twice, so good...

Sweet! Still haven't heard their new one yet for some reason. Mental note.

Thanks, I'll check that out. I've just downloaded albums by Cult of Luna and Intronaut, after reading reviews on MetalSucks. I'm partial to the industrial/psychedelic stuff.

Have you listened to Author and Punisher? About as close as I get to industrial these days after overdosing on it in the 90s.

All good stuff here, but you all are showing your age - a more apt title for this thread would be "Let's talk about classic mainstream metal." hee hee

Quoted from Pin-it:

Its all metal gotta start at the roots 1st^^ dont worry we aint that old can bang out just like these younglings.

I'm getting up there in years myself! I try and spin the classics sometimes, but still prefer to listen to new stuff whenever I can. Keeps me young in a way, I guess. It's strange hearing stuff that was once considered edgy on the radio - a true sign you're getting old!

I think I'm the only here who likes Megadeth

Not at all! Rust in Peace was the album that got me into metal, and the best thing to come out of, well, Metallica. Dave is a nutjob, but what can you do.

Demiricous I and II. If you dont own them,.....you need to.

Have not heard of them, and I'm usually a hard one to surprise. Pretty good!

Ministry Stigmata » YouTube video

Listened to the Land of Rape and Honey this morning! Nothing brings back memories of early high school like Ministry. We spent hours trying to identify all the samples on The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste (pre-internet, of course), and would spend evenings shooting pool with that album playing on repeat. "Dream Song" is pretty mindblowing at 2 in the morning when you're 16 and coming down off a sugar high.

Time goes fast...I've got the guitar tab to Cemetery Gates here on my desk. Always liked that one.

Haha, nice. They'd be fun to see live. My 7 year old loves them.

Yupe. Anybody read Nergel's new book yet?

Quoted from xbloodgreenx:

It's not out yet in English, I don't think.

Ah. I thought Decibel had excerpts from it in English this month so I was confused. Maybe it was just an interview though.
