Quoted from RobKnapp:

I was really into 'Grunge Rock' I saw Sound Garden , The Smashing Pumpkins, , Alice in Chains all live a various early 1990's Lollapalooza lineups Grunge is full of insight of the of drug tortured souls . Emotional music that I identified with .

Haha, you too? For me it was metal was becoming cookie cutter crap and grunge filled my listening needs. 92 lollapaloza is still best show/lineup I've been too. Although none of the bands are "metal"
-Chili peppers
-Ministry
-Soundgarden
-Pearl Jam
-Lush
-Ice Cube
Plus Jim Rose Sideshow was traveling with them.

99 Ozzfest is best metal lineup I've seen
Sabbath w/Ozzy reunion
Slayer
Rob Zombie
Deftones
Primus.

Some other single show highlights include Priest, Megadeath, Testament tour in early 90s and Maiden/Anthrax 90ish.

What about you guys? Yes there's a concert thread but this is a metal thread! Best shows you've been too?

YO who likes OverKill?

#1819 6 years ago

Loving th Sons of Apollo album - part Symphony X, part deep purple, part Yngwie (a tiny part), part Kansas, etc etc. Lots of great parts that will synthesise together even better on album #2!

How many bands is Portnoy in now? Like 46? lol!

That sounds good ... check out Bumblefoots guitar, the top neck is fretless. Never seen a fretless metal guitar before ...

Portnoy has taken to making jokes about that in a lot of press interviews - I think all the bands/projects is his way of testing the waters to see what sticks. The album is great, although IMO not as good as the first Winery Dogs album, i do hope that doesn't fall apart. Sons of apollo has a LOT of heavy keyboards on it - it sounds a lot like Derek Sherinian's solo stuff, which is REALLY good. Brutal in parts -

First I've ever seen a fret less guitar in metal too... I love the Holdsworth stuff he does on one of the songs - track #4 I think

I send this to my leafs buddy every year when they get eliminated! Been a fan since under the influence in 88, never had a chance to see them live , that’s always been a disappointment .

#1833 6 years ago

High on Fire is the loudest band live.
I've done scientific research.

#1834 6 years ago

Let's talk about Metal...

A favorite genre of mine, generally starting in the late 80s with metallica, then in the 90s with Pantera, Ministry, and Sepultura (that I can remember). In the 2000s it was GWAR, various Norwegian Black Metal (my favorite metal genre, but only in small doses), and other various artists (I discovered the internet around this time, so the floodgates were really opened). It's also what I prefer to listen to at work if I wasn't forced to listen to playlisted mainstream pop music every day.

So, that's my story.

How about a loudest concent you've been to poll?
Ac/dc thunderstruck tour. Floor seats just off to the side of the stage. Less then 20ft from a row of Marshalls. Ears rang for days.

Fight - for what you believe to be right;
Crushing with all your might;
I laugh at their beautiful cries;
They run from the fire in my eyes.

#1848 6 years ago

Piranha kill in a pack - you run,
Piranha starts to attack - you've done,
If you think you can beat - deadly school,
If you think you can live - you're a fool.

#1849 6 years ago

Old school hard rock/metal fan here. Not into much current stuff. Still stuck in the past. Megadeth Atlanta Ga at the old Metroplex November of 1986 was the best show I've seen. Peace Sells has only been out a month or two at the time. Hallows Eve opened. Spring of next year they were back w/the Necros/Overkill opening. Met members of the bands both times. Very cool times.......

#1850 6 years ago

Hallows Eve...

Death and Insanity... a flicker in the flame;
Death and Insanity... are you truly sane?
