Now that I got my PM up and running, it might be time to start customizing it a little. Let's see what you guy's have done to yours! Big or small it doesn't matter. From changing the color of the rubbers all way up to the crazy stuff, I'm looking for any and all ideas! I know this isn't a popular game to mod out, but I'm sure some of you out there have tweaked it in one way or another so show it off here!

Though it's easy to drop $1,000+ into mods for Theatre of Magic and Twilight zone, PM isn't a mod-heavy game.

In fact, I think I've seen a single mod (enhancement) for PM. It was a female magician bust that someone found online and mounted atop a playfield plastic.

If you change rubbers, given that the flippers are strong and the game is fast, I highly recommend NOT to install Superband post sleeves.

LEDs

Can't do LEDs.... not yet.... not until Herg figures it out and offers an LED OCD product (this is work in process - thread here https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/leds-in-capcom-games).

Wireforms

When I take my game down for shopping, I'll most likely pull the wireforms out and send them off to Chestnut for some high-polish brass plating (they'll look like they were gold-plated). Not really a mod, but a nice touch that will make the game pop!

Protective Upgrades

Pinbits has some playfield plastic protectors for PM, but not a complete set. IN fact, I don't even think it is on their site. I've been trying to get Bryan Hansen, the game's original designer, to forward CAD files of the plastics so pinbits can make a 100% set. Otherwise, I'll take my plastics off when I shop the game and scan them to achieve the goal. Either way, you'll eventually be able to get a full set from Pinbits and that is important since you can't find most replacement plastics on the market. www.pinbits.com

Mantis makes a replacement lift plate for the 5-target bank. If you look at yours, it's Aluminum and probably pretty nearly worn through from making contact with the two stainless leveling screws beneath it. I had Kerry make me one out of Stainless, and that is what I'd recommend you purchase from him. http://www.mantisamusements.com/pmdrop5.htm

Finally, my buddy Robert just shipped off a spare NOS playfield to Cliff so he can template some protectors for the skill shot, shooter eject, and most importantly the genie bottle hole under the trunk on the left side. Stay tuned, as these should be coming soon.

Hope this helps

Hmm, i have done several led lighting mods as well as my interactive under-cab kit for Pinball Magic. I think i only have the under-cab listed on my site though.

I know theres at least one guy here on the forums who claims he put B/W pinblades in his PM, I'd like to see that! I saw another guy on youtube who made his stage doors open slowly instead of slamming open and it was a cool mod but he seemed be german or something and no description of what was done anyways.

I'm aware of the LED issues on this game, and its unfortunate. I know some guys have LED'd theirs but I just couldn't do it at the moment and give up the awesome lighting effects in this game.

Its not a mod heavy game thats for sure, it would take some ingenuity to do most mods, so thats why I created this place to show off anything you may have changed in your game, including the simple mods!

Good call, I think you have a point there. What about super bands for the flippers though? Also there are those new titan silicone rubbers, and probably some other options as well. Maybe somebody has painted their legs or something too, I don't know. Or maybe all us PM owners just like leaving our game stock...

My opinion on using Superbands on flippers is that it is personal preference. Definitely changes the game play. Some say it gives you more control, though they can make your dead traps with the flippers more difficult. Have not tried Titan bands yet.

Don't give up on the LEDs just yet - have faith in Herg!

Slowing down the stage door openings? That's sounds like a great idea. Need to look that one up (if you find a DIY guide, please post a link here).

Here is a link to the video with the stage door mod. Sadly I'm not able to find a write up on how he did it. Maybe somebody more electrically savvy can chime in on how it could be done.

I have B/W blades in, along with LEDs and metallic purple armor. Beautiful.

That sounds awesome, care to post some pictures?

Here is the same guy with a video "explaining" the mod.
It doesn't make me any wiser, but maybe someone gets it?

Would love to have the stage doors open like that.

Restored my coin door and spray painted it with a hammered finish. Looks good in the flesh. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

I placed spots on the slings, behind the hat and on the ramp to light up the playfield. These are the only LEDs I use on the game. They make a big difference. They do ghost and strobe ever so slightly during fade effects, but it's totally worth it. I used the Comet Opmax bulbs. They are the best all round bulb I've found.

The games doesn't look this red in person.

Any developments on the PM Cliffy Protectors?

Any developments on the PM Cliffy Protectors?

I wish, but unfortunately no. Cliffy continues to be too busy... I ping him every couple months...

In the interim, Kerry from Mantis has committed to making a better-than-new replacement weldment which should eliminate any new wear at the Genie Bottle hole. Details here:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/capcom-pinball-magic-scoopweldment

Still going to need Cliffy to make protectors for the 5-target back and the two playfield holes... someday.

Also, in the interim, don't forget to grab a Capcom LED OCD board from LEDocd.com.

Last mod I care about right now is a ColorDMD... fingers crossed!
