After spending a few years enjoying Bally/Williams DMDs I had the opportunity to pick up a classic Stern. After playing it awhile, I have to say that it is a lot more fun that many DMDs I have played. The simpler ruleset, fast flowing shots, drop target banks and spinners are a blast. Sometimes I just want a quick game (or more likely 10 quick games) to see what kind of score I can put up. I'd love to see other Classic Sterns from people's collections. Here's mine - Cheetah!

Two of the rarer ones! I've played Orbitor One (?!?) but never Iron Maiden. Hard to see the playfield from here - what's it like? Sounds like it might be getting a "remake"?

Is that a skillshot in the upper left? Love the way it curls around to the lanes. Never played this one but it does look like a fun one.

#8 6 years ago

Wow - beautiful Seawitch. I'd love to get some more time on this one. Love the interesting layout, theme and art. It seems like newer manufacturers are not as innovative in playfield layouts as some of these classics. Awesome.

It's a great game and usually kicks my butt pretty bad. Three ball multiball is hard to get and the backglass......, we'll forget about it!

Wow - that looks like it's in great shape. Love the metal ramps and upper playfield. Gotta love those drops, too.

Yeah I got pretty lucky the day I found this game by accident. I've owned plenty of other Sterns over the years from Viper, Ali, Nugent, Catacomb......, all great in there own way but when you only have so much room you have to make sacrifices at times. I'd love to have a Viper glass to hang on the wall. Anybody?

John

#15 6 years ago

Awesome - another Cheetah! I see you have the blue variant, mine is black. Love the Stargazer. Such great art.

#16 6 years ago

I believe you have us all topped

Really, that is an amazing collection. I've never played a Nine Ball but I've heard it's really innovative and a great game. That is some pinball goodness right there. Congratulations.

#17 6 years ago

I also had to mention something else I noticed in those pics. Doors are overrated. They take up valuable pinball space

#18 6 years ago

Haha..i knew you'd bring her to this party...!

#19 6 years ago

Its a shame she has to come alone..

#20 6 years ago

That Dragonfist looks like it's in really nice shape. Such a cool and rare machine.

Here's my current stern lineup. Also have a Stars at the office... but had to sell off my Meteor and Ali to make space.

Getting a F2K at the end of the month.

Would love a galaxy, or a stars or meteor to go with my f2k. Heck I want em all! My youngest son who is 12 had his “girlfriend” over to see our arcade tonight. She came over for pac man, but spent most of her time on f2k. So good to see a young generation fall in love with pinball!

Man these are all awesome. Does anyone have a Lightning? I’m kicking myself now cause I had a chance to buy a project Lightning on CL for $800. Didn’t know at the time how rare these old sterns are. Should have bought it ugh.

Lighting isn't one of their best.

Here is my newest acquisition.

Goodness Gracious!!!! Those are some beautiful pins.....I've gained some serious respect for these old Stern pins, as I never saw many of them growing up. They show some incredible artwork and innovative gameplay that was unique at that time. WOW!!!

That seems to be the key - get on board early! If only my time machine worked...

#41 6 years ago

I put the updated Cheetah roms into my machine this morning. It takes away the ability to keep hitting the left orbit over and over to collect bonus. It's much more balanced now.

Love those two side by side the red/green and the blues really go together well. They look to be in excellent shape, that's a great collection.

I have no pics, but I own QS, Lightning, and am building a SG and SW from scratch.

How do you go about building one from scratch?

#49 6 years ago
Quoted from n1teowl:

The backglasses, playfields boards and other parts are available. Find the right donor cabinet and head, paint and assemble. Might be easier to do that at this point as opposed to waiting for a game to pop up. Not so much for SW but SG. I’ve been looking for one for years, even have decent trade bait to offer.....

It's amazing that it's come to this. Just shows the increasing popularity of these games and the lack of available stock.
