Quoted from Mr_Outlane:Ya, that carpet is really cool! Where did you get it?
Astro Carpet Mills! Made in the USA, I ordered it direct from the manufacturer. They were really easy to deal with and I was surprised that they were willing to ship it all the way to Canada. I had to hire customs brokers myself but even that was a breeze once I found someone.
It's difficult to find neon made in this hemisphere any more, especially with online markets flooded with junk from overseas. I bought two signs recently from China. One came very well packed in double boxes, although the transformer sometimes won't turn on unless it's power cycled a few times.
The other was more interesting: it came in a thin card stock box, packed in peanuts. Shipping was free, although they used a premium-post service. It was completely flat by the time it arrived, with ground glass basically pouring out of the holes. The customs value declared was much higher than the invoice value. They didn't want me to use the dispute process on the marketplace platform, instead demanding that I send them the photos directly. Given the amount of insurance they took out on the package and the regular reports of damage on their merchant page, it seemed more likely that they were pulling some sort of insurance skimming shipping scam.
Use it and a couple of coat hangers to build a jacob's ladder. These days, neon sign transformers come tiny.
Quoted from cait001:OK but now you gotta post your neon! or waiting until the room is full?
I've tweeted it like eight times
Quoted from gorditas:You can also see in the photo the method I've come up with to keep the metal studs from flexing where there are outlets. Metal is cheaper, straighter, and you can cut half a dozen studs at once. If you are starting from scratch, I'd definitely consider going that direction.

Electrician here. Depending on your local jurisdiction, this may be against your local building/electrical codes. Where I am (which is not necessarily where you are) you need to use a wrap-around steel box with steel studs, as they have built-in stabilization. If the box is more than one gang in width, it should be attached with an appropriate(and approved) span brace. Bracing steel with wood in order to accommodate a box that isn't approved for steel stud would net me an instant fail from the inspector.
These plastic boxes do the same thing, should be available just about anywhere, and are made in the USA: https://www.legrand.us/wiring-devices/electrical-boxes/wall-boxes/steel-stud-bracket-box/p/p122b
For sure. One of the things that I've done to brace studs and shift boxes is actually take a cut-off steel stud, notch out bits of it so it can be bent, and bend it into a bracket. Top and bottom get fastened into the regular stud and the junction box can be fastened to the new bracket.
Having an open door to my workshop didn’t fit the look of the arcade, so I dusted off the sewing machine and banged out some Japanese-style noren curtains.

Quoted from Silverstreak02:I have the same Pachinko game. The fourth reel is the best feature.
I added a lifter to the inside from a user on pachitalk. They 3d printed a mechanism and it works pretty well.
I know I've posted a few static pictures already, but I finally finished installing the blacklight projectors and getting the other finishing touches in place. I think the arcade is finally done enough to give you all the video tour:
Quoted from Medic:Do those ceiling lights light up or are you shining a black light at it? Where did you get it from if you don’t mind sharing
Looks like Nanoleaf Aurora panels.
Quoted from PinPickle:For those using black light? Any recommendations? Everything I see the reviews are overwhelming about the heat from the smaller cubes. Thx
Almost all of the ebay stuff is garbage. It's important to use 365nm instead of 395nm, because the latter throw off a whole lot of visible light and it ruins the effect. Even the ones claiming 365nm are usually fake, so be prepared to occasionally send back a dud.
I buy mine from http://spiderwebman.net/ - guy has an old-school operation but he's picky about what he sells. I have two of the 12W ones and my goodness does it ever make things pop.
Quoted from PinPickle:Very good to know. I had no idea there was a difference between them. Do yours get hot? I looked on his website and he’s sold out for now but I’m going to reach out. Thank you!
I left them on for an hour to test for you and took a look with my thermal gun. The heatsinks are at 102°F(39°C) at their hottest point... so while they're warm, they're definitely not what I'd consider hot. Put your hand on a boob light with an incandescent bulb in it and you'll never do it again!
He sells a high quality product... it's still imported, but whoever is manufacturing them is definitely doing a better job than the absolute crap that floods the amazon marketplace.
Quoted from DanMarino:Question for you guys that have black, open, ceilings and exposed joists and ductwork in your basement game rooms. How did you paint that stuff black?
I set a small fire in the corner and let it smoke for a few days. Zero effort and the basement has tonnes of character now.
Quoted from The_Pump_House:What are my full roll fluorescent carpet options.
Who else makes it besides JOY?
Astro Carpet Mills. They were a pleasure to deal with when I ordered mine. Got to pick custom colours and everything and they even helped get affordable shipping to Canada. Not an easy task with items this size.
